Chris Evans' Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) return could point to one iconic storyline for Avengers: Doomsday that would see a Stan Lee prediction proven right. Chris Evans stood tall as one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and the official leader of the Avengers from his first appearance in 2011, all the way through to his final battle in 2019s Avengers: Endgame. However, it appears that Evans is ready to step back into the MCU yet again to appear in the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

This is interesting, because Chris Evans has already returned to the MCU to play a small but important part in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he reprized the role of Johnny Storm after playing the character in 2005 and 2007. This cameo was exciting, but short-lived, with Johnny Storm swiftly being beaten, and then killed. But now, Chris Evans is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday in an undisclosed role, and there is one role that would be perfect for the actor to play.

Evans has already been Captain America for the best part of a decade. And, more recently, he paid tribute to his time as a Marvel hero before the MCU, but there is one character who could be incredibly interesting to see him play. Evans should play the evil version of Captain America, who becomes a double agent working for HYDRA. This version of the character was first introduced in comics back in 2016, and it made for an incredibly interesting take on an iconic hero.

If Evans returned and was simply playing Captain America again, it would be nice to have him reunite with old friends and people like Sam Wilson, but it would overshadow Wilson's efforts to step up as the new Captain America. Likewise, he just came back as Johnny Storm and was immediately killed. They could make him another variant of Johnny Storm, but that would not be as meaningful after seeing him play that part in Deadpool & Wolverine already.

Stan Lee was not the original creator behind Captain America as he had been with many of the most iconic characters of the Marvel Comics, but he did serve as the Editor-in-Chief for many years and oversaw the character being developed and written countless times. And according to Lee, he really liked the idea of subverting Captain America's loyalties and making him the bad guy. Yes, it's a divisive take, but it's also one that makes for an incredibly interesting story which was never explored in the past.

"It's a hell of a clever idea. I don't know that I would ever have thought of it for him to be a double agent, but it's going to make you curious, it's going to make you want to read the books, they'll probably do a movie based on it."

With Stan Lee's blessing, and his prediction that it would eventually get a movie of its own, it does seem like executives and the creatives at Marvel could be more likely to approach this divisive take and give it a spin of their own. And with Chris Evans now set to return for Avengers: Doomsday, it could be the perfect time to play with this concept. It may not be something Marvel would want to engage for multiple movies, but getting Evans back to do this part in the final chapters of the Multiverse Saga could be the perfect way to do it right, and in a way that fans would engage with.

Stan Lee Had Incredible Insight For What Makes A Good Story

Robert Downey Jr. has already been confirmed to appear in the MCU playing the role of Doctor Doom. This is a huge departure from his time as Tony Stark, and one that many fans have embraced with open arms. With that in mind, it could be the perfect time to get Evans back in a role where he has a villain streak. Since the MCU wrapped, Evans has tackled some more villainous roles, such as his part in Knives Out and The Gray Man. Considering The Gray Man was directed by the Russo brothers, it's clear they believe in his ability to play a villain.

So, why not introduce him back in as Captain America, have him reunite with his dear friends like Sam and Bucky, and then, turn around and reveal his position as a villain. In this way, Captain America and the new Doctor Doom would be allies, positioning Chris Evans and RDJ side by side, against the heroes who used to look to them as their leaders. This would be a devastating turn that could be equal to the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War if they played it right. And seeing everything leading up to this moment, it seems like this could be the best and most interesting way to bring Chris Evans back in Avengers: Doomsday.
