Rescue (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) share a touching moment in a scrapped Avengers: Endgame promotional image. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts had gone through a lot together in a span of 10 years in the MCU. As the franchise's inaugural couple, their love story is arguably the best fleshed out making it much more effective. So when Tony died in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick knowing that he'll leave a wife and a young daughter behind, it was extra sad to watch.
Following his near-death experience in Morgan. This was also the reason why he was skeptical about ing the Time Heist, but the call for duty, as well as the possibility of bringing Peter Parker back haunted him until he eventually suited back up. Work never really stopped for Tony, however, during his family-man days. On top of upgrading his own suit, he also created Pepper her own armor, an anniversary present he said, which she eventually debuted during Endgame's massive final battle.
Shared on Instagram by Liz Georgoff, the legacy department coordinator for both Infinity War and Endgame, is an image of Rescue and Iron Man forehead-to-forehead. She provided context for the photo's existence since this was never released in the caption writing: "Once upon a time, Marvel asked me to wear the Pepper Potts Rescue Suit for a publicity photo shoot. It will always be such an honor to have been one of four women ever to have worn it and to have posed in it with the talented Christopher Swift, my real life Iron Man. Thank you for building these awesome suits with Legacy Effects and for this incredible experience." Check out the snap below:
The reveal of Pepper's Rescue suit was saved for the film, but it was an open secret that she was getting her own armor for Endgame thanks to a couple of social media posts from Paltrow herself giving the information away. Art for the Avengers 4 Hero Vision toy line revealed a purple-and-white version of an Iron Man suit corroborated with the claim, and at that point, everyone was just looking forward for the suit's full reveal. Assuming that this shot of Rescue and Iron Man was supposed to be used for marketing efforts, Marvel Studios may have thought of capitalizing on the buzz around Rescue and use it to promote Endgame rather than pretending that it's a well-kept surprise. Otherwise, the image may have just been used as a test shot in case the Russos wanted to include a similar frame to the film itself.
Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of The Infinity Saga, but it also effectively wrapped up Tony Stark's arc with a slew of references to his early adventures. While fans didn't get to see this particular shot in the film or in any other marketing materials, the film was able to effectively include several Pepper and Tony moments that highlighted just how far they've come as a couple. Pepper being the last person Tony saw before he died and her assuring her husband that they're going to be just fine was such a fitting send-off for the franchise's inaugural hero.
