Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of all-time highest-grosser worldwide.
While several weeks have elapsed since the theatrical release of Avengers: Endgame, questions surrounding both the film itself, and its implications for the future of the MCU, still abound. In some cases, such as with the confusing time-traveling ending involving Captain America, Endgame's writers and directors don't even seem to be on the same page. Still, fans are unlikely to stop being curious about Avengers: Endgame anytime soon.
During a recent interview with Iron Man's war-winning snap. Was she dusted along with everyone else that traveled forward from 2014, or is she still out there somewhere? Unfortunately, the Russos' answer to that question was a big, resounding shrug.
BI: At the end, Peter Quill (Star-Lord) is looking at a computer screen for Gamora. I assume she didn't get dusted? So obviously they're looking for her. Can you answer just generally where she went? We didn't see her leave.
Joe: We don't know whether she was dusted or whether she survived. That's probably a question that "Guardians [3]" will answer.
Anthony: Quill doesn't know either.
Joe: I'm sure future films will answer that question.
BI: That's up to James Gunn, I guess.
Anthony: [laughs] Exactly, we've done our job.
Considering the Russos' track record when it comes to interviews about the MCU, it's unclear if they seriously don't know, or are just trying to protect an important plot detail for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It seems a bit unlikely that they wouldn't at least inquire as to why exactly Gamora disappeared at the end of their film, but at the same time, the Russos also seem to be quite ready to be done with their MCU tenure. With that in mind, perhaps they didn't see the point of asking about it.
Either way, the fact that Star-Lord was searching for Gamora right before Thor arrived to form the "Asgardians of the Galaxy," definitely suggests that he believes she's still out there. Of course, he very well could've just missed her turning to dust along with the rest of 2014 Thanos' army. Unless Tony Stark specifically mentally excluded her from the fate that befell past Thanos and company, one would think she wouldn't be exempt. Of course, even if she did survive Avengers: Endgame, it remains to be seen how the dynamic between Gamora and Peter Quill could ever possibly be the same.
