New footage from Avengers: Infinity War began.

Fans have long been waiting to see the two leaders of the Avengers work together again, and Avengers: Endgame special look confirming tickets are now on sale. Tony asks Cap if he trusts him, which Cap affirms and the two shake hands. However, there is more going on with this scene that Marvel is trying to cover up.

This scene features Tony and Steve standing in the middle of the street, in the middle of some sort of mission. Tony is wearing a tracksuit, while Steve is noticeably still wearing the torn up "Nomad" suit he wore throughout Infinity War. This already doesn't quite add up: the trailers for Avengers: Endgame have shown him in many suits already, but not this one.

Upon closer inspection, this is very likely one of the digitally altered fake trailer shots that the Russos have talked about in the past. If you watch the scene again and pay specific attention to Steve's neck, you'll notice that the suit looks as though it is just floating around Chris Evans. That is a dead giveaway that this is likely a CGI suit. If our assumption is correct, it begs the question of why Marvel would go to the trouble of digitally giving Steve a new suit in this scene, and what he is actually wearing instead. Thankfully, we have a pretty good idea at what's going on.

Captain America is most likely wearing his original costume from The Avengers underneath this CGI'd suit; going back to the aforementioned set photos, they showed Steve Rogers in his 2012 costume with an older and blonder Tony Stark (just like the one shown above) on the streets of New York with Hulk and Ant-Man.

The reason for the classic costume - and why Marvel would want to cover up the use of it in the marketing - is clear: they are trying to hide the time travel factor of Avengers: Endgame from the trailers. The popular theory - that the Avengers will go back to previous movies in a bid to stop Thanos - was first floated in light of those set photos and there's been a lot more evidence since. We still don't know what exactly is happening in the scene in question, but it appears to be the Battle of New York from The Avengers, with Tony and Ant-Man - at the very least - having come back to alter events. In that light, to show Captain America in his old suit would, of course, reveal far too much of this in the marketing itself.

This scene and its altered nature is just the latest example of Marvel changing the Avengers: Endgame trailers to try and protect certain plot points. And, considering just how protective over what they have shown so far, this may be one of the only true hints to time travel that we'll get before Avengers: Endgame hits theaters later this month.
