By featuring Kang The Conqueror and possibly many of his variants as the main villains of the movie, Loki - it was only during San Diego Comic-Con that Marvel Studios revealed its plans for what is now known as the Multiverse Saga. Phases 4, 5, and 6 will culminate into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, a multiverse storyline that can be traced back to Loki season 1.
After being the main villain in Thor and in The Avengers, plus an important ing character in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, Loki is killed in Avengers: Infinity War at the hands of Thanos. However, after an alternate 2012 version of Loki got to escape from the Avengers and change the course of his own history, it became clear that the MCU still had plans for the character. Loki’s scenes in Avengers: Endgame ended up establishing the Loki series, a show that dealt with the consequences of Loki’s time crime.
Instead of dealing with magic or gods, Loki turned out to be the MCU’s first step into the multiverse. Through Loki’s eyes, audiences got to know the rules of the multiverse - at least from the TVA’s point of view - in a journey that culminated with the reveal of He Who Remains. In hindsight, Loki was the first key MCU character to not only interact with one of Kang's many versions but also to learn about their history and their potential plans. The Avengers will eventually clash with Kang in Avengers 5, and it would be most fitting if Loki were the one to warn them about Kang. Loki is the reason why the Avengers assembled for the first time, and now he could once again cause the heroes to unite, this time playing on their side.
Why Loki Is The Perfect Character To Warn The Avengers About Kang
While the Loki series started with the 2012 Loki, the one who had just destroyed New York and did not have many redeemable qualities, the show quickly saw the character evolve into something much closer to Infinity War Loki. The God of Mischief was faced with his own future, not to mention his encounter with many Loki variants, an experience that pushed Loki back to an anti-hero role. Loki’s life and fate are now tied with the multiverse plot, and currently, the character is much more connected with the TVA, Mobius, Sylvie, and Kang than he is with Thor. Loki was the audience’s guide through the multiverse far before the Watcher in What If…? or Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and there’s no better character to kickstart the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty than him.
Granted, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will also feature Kang, but at this point, Loki seems to have much more knowledge about the dangers that the Kang variants pose to the multiverse. Not only that, but a once enemy of the Avengers assisting the heroes in their next major fight would make Loki’s story come full circle, and it would conclude the character’s second redemption arc initiated in the Loki series. After dying right at the beginning of Infinity War, Loki could now have a much bigger role in the Multiverse Saga's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
