Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Avengers Assemble #1! The Avengers are known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for a reason, with each individual member contributing superpowers that make feats like saving the world (and sometimes the entire universe) possible. However, just because the Avengers are strong doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement, and one new recruit agrees, as he just gave the Avengers matching costumes that actually give them extra powers.
In Avengers Assemble #1 by Steve Orlando and Cory Smith, readers are introduced to an all-new Avengers lineup. This team is technically a secondary squad to the official Avengers (which is led by Captain Marvel over in the main Avengers comic title). However, the Avengers Assemble lineup is still a part of the whole superhero initiative, similar to the Young Avengers or West Coast Avengers, making them just as much ‘Avengers’ as Captain Marvel’s crew. And now, these specific Avengers might actually sur the ‘official’ squad.
After every new recruit makes it to the Avengers Mansion, the last to arrive has a present for the rest of them, and that Avenger is Night Thrasher. While he has a reputation as just this skateboarding hero from the ‘90s, Night Thrasher is actually a certified genius. He understands complex theories like time loops and interdimensional incursions, and Night Thrasher's technological brilliance rivals Tony Stark himself. And now, on day one of being an Avenger, Night Thrasher is able to prove it by offering his teammates upgrades.
New Avengers Uniforms Give Them Extra Powers - What Are They?
Night Thrasher Just Upgraded Every Member of the Avengers in Soon-to-be-Revealed Ways
Night Thrasher describes these new uniforms as “woven tech” that “do a hell of a lot more than keep you warm”. However, after this tech-genius shows the other Avengers the means of their new upgrades, Avengers Assemble #1 ends, leaving readers completely in the dark about what these new suits actually do. Aside from the image featured on the cover of the next issue (as shown above), fans don’t even know what the Avengers even look like in them. But, even without an official explanation, there is still plenty of room for speculation.
It seems likely that these suits will connect with the wearer and enhance their pre-existing superpowers. The description “woven tech” gives the impression that the tech isn’t just woven into the fabric of the suits, but that it will be something akin to nanotech that will ‘weave’ into the Avengers themselves, and enhance their pre-existing superpowers. If that’s true, then every Avenger will be getting a massive upgrade. She-Hulk will get even stronger, Hawkeye will become more of a sharpshooter, and Captain America will be an even greater super-soldier.
The Avengers’ New Suits Make Them a Better Team for a Completely Different Reason
Matching Uniforms will Help the Avengers be a More Effective Superhero Team
Not only will these suits grant the Avengers a major upgrade, but the matching uniforms themselves also serve a significant purpose. As Night Thrasher explains, “People need to know who we are and what we do the instant they see us. That’ll save lives. It’s not just optics - it’ll help us do our jobs”. This is one of the few times in Marvel history that the Avengers have matching costumes, and it may soon be proven that the team’s lack of a uniform was the one thing that kept the Avengers from being as great as they could be.

Marvel Is Setting the Stage for This MCU Hero to Be the Avengers' Next Leader
In Marvel's new Avengers Assemble #1, it sets up a surprise MCU star to be its next leader, even letting them yell the iconic "Avengers Assemble!"
While fans don’t yet know exactly how these suits work, or what kind of upgrades they’ll offer the Avengers, the one thing that is clear is that they will make the Avengers better superheroes. In one form or another, the suits will enhance the Avengers’ abilities, and the matching uniforms will make them more recognizable as heroes. So, no matter the details, the Avengers’ new matching costumes are a positive evolution for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
