Warning: Spoilers for The Avengers #12!Captain Marvel's new sidekick, Yuna Yang, is the newest addition to the Avengers, but it's debatable if the team should continue to trust her. Yuna has become a staple of Captain Marvel's most recent solo series, but despite Carol Danvers serving as leader of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Yuna has never been referenced or seen in the Avengers series until now.

That all changes in The Avengers #12 by Jed MacKay, sco Mortarino, Federico Blee, and VC's Cory Petit, where Yuna gains access to the team's home base while the Avengers plan to strike back against Orchis. As the mutant-hating syndicate continues to oppress mutantkind, Emma Frost's husband Tony Stark lets his team know that now is the time to take Orchis out for good. They need all the muscle they can get, and new muscle arrives in the form of a new member, Yuna.

Yuna's inclusion on the team might end catastrophically, considering her past. If she wants to make it on the team, she must prove she has truly turned away from her vigilante lifestyle.

Who is Yuna Yang? Captain Marvel's New Sidekick, Explained

Captain Marvel #1 by Alyssa Wong and Jan Bazaldua immediately establishes Yuna Yang as a criminal. The first thing she's seen doing is breaking into a Brooklyn apartment in the hopes of stealing the Nega-Bands. She gets more than she bargained for when she becomes begrudgingly bonded to the bands, connecting her to Captain Marvel. Due to the nature of the Nega-Bands, their bond means that while either Yuna or Carol is out in the real world, the other is stuck in the Negative Zone. The only way to swap Captain Marvel from the Negative Zone to Earth is through Yuna's cooperation by way of the Nega-Bands, becoming partners in the process. While Yuna being a "chill criminal" dominates the start of their dynamic, Carol learns to accept her past as their friendship grew.

Now, that friendship has blossomed into Yuna being included on a real Avengers mission. As Captain Marvel anticipates that her time is running out before swapping with Yuna, she puts Iron Man and the Black Panther in charge. From there, Yuna's under the care of the Impossible City, the Avenger's newest ally and sentient home base. She may have be the most instrumental aspect to the plan, but she's a presence during the mission, and as Orchis attempts to overwhelm the Avengers, there is a chance that she could play an even bigger role in this mission by next issue.

Should The Avengers Trust Captain Marvel's Sidekick?

So far at least, Yuna Yang remains loyal and trustworthy enough for an Avengers hip.

She may have earned Carol's trust, but the Avengers are another story. It's worth keeping in mind that Yuna is still new to the hero lifestyle. In Captain Marvel #6 by Alyssa Wong and Ruairi Coleman, Yuna its to the villainous Omen's host, Leonore, that she's "nothing compared to her," and seems to be tempted to the Omen's side. However, it soon becomes apparent that this is all a part of a ruse she's planned with Carol to acquire the Omen. Despite Leonore being her love interest, Yuna remains loyal to Captain Marvel and fills her in on the plan. So far at least, Yuna Yang remains loyal and trustworthy enough for an Avengers hip.
