consequences of choices and unlocking new powers that help them reach their true potential. The difficult part is knowing which actions result in new powers and which ones should be avoided due to possible downsides.

Sapadal is a character who appears during the Ancient Soil quest, which is one of the main quests. This quest involves a lot of traveling and exploring with Giatta, which eventually leads to an objective to take Giatta to the base of the Adra Pillar. That leads to an objective to speak with The Voice, whose true identity is Sapadal. At that point, it's time to choose whether to accept Sapadal's power or reject it and deal with the consequences of that decision.

What Happens If You Accept Sapadal's Power

The Nature Of The Power

Avowed Thorn of Sapadal-2

Accepting Sapadal's power grants the player character an ability called Thorn of Sapadal. This is a Godlike ability that fires a thorn of energy that es through multiple enemies, dealing damage on impact and also rooting them in place, which provides a bit of crowd control that can be useful against enemy hordes or for the sake of repositioning during a fight. It costs 30 Essence to cast, lasts for three seconds, and has a cooldown of 30 seconds. However, accepting Sapadal's offer leads to another decision that needs to be made.

Avowed Review: The Fate Of The Living Lands Is In Your Hands

Avowed is the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, and it’s an incredible showcase of the beloved studio’s writing and world-building.

If Sapadal's power is accepted, the next decision is whether to destroy the ruins or sever the Adra Network, and both choices have different rewards. Destroying the ruins rewards the Scion of the Immortal Land ability, which is another Godlike ability. This one increases damage dealt and grants health regeneration for 12 seconds. It costs 30 Essence to cast, lasts for 12 seconds, and has a cooldown of 60 seconds. Overall, it's a useful ability, since extra damage and health regeneration can benefit any build.

Building a Fighter in Avowed is one of the most straightforward options for anyone who's undecided, but there are no shortage of interesting alternatives.

Alternatively, accepting Sapadal's power and then severing the Adra Network rewards the player with the Severed Branch ability instead. This gives the player character maximum movement speed for 20 seconds. It costs 30 Essence to cast, lasts for 20 seconds, and has a cooldown of 60 seconds. So, accepting the power results in two new Godlike abilities, regardless of which choice is made after accepting it. As far as consequences go, accepting or rejecting the power impacts a possible epilogue scene, but the choice after accepting doesn't seem to have such an impact.

What Happens If You Reject Sapadal's Power

The Bonus Of Rejection

Rejecting Sapadal's power provides the Godlike's Will ability, which is simply a bonus ability point that can be used in the Fighter, Ranger, or Wizard ability trees. It also means that the follow-up choice to destroy the ruins or sever the Adra Network isn't available. This ends up being one bonus ability point at the cost of two Godlike abilities, but the ending of the game is affected by the decision to either accept or reject the power, which also needs to be taken into consideration. Specifically, the option changes one possible epilogue scene.

Why You Should Accept Sapadal's Power

A Power Boost For Any Class

Depending on how much the player cares about the epilogue, accepting the power is always the better option in of gameplay and character strength. The Thorn of Sapadal ability is useful for any class, since it provides damage against multiple enemies and a bit of crowd control with its root effect. Then, the second option can be made based on which of the two Godlike abilities is a better fit for that character's build, but having movement speed or increased damage and healing are also abilities that are useful for any build.

Choices in games can be stressful, especially when they have consequences long after they're made, which is often the case in Avowed. As a result, the benefits of power versus roleplay and character decisions haved to be weighed with the uncertainty of what might happen as a result looming over them. At least when it comes to accepting Sapadal's power or rejecting it, the immediate consequences are felt through a power boost, and the long-term consequences won't come into play until after beating Avowed, only changing the nature of Avowed's epilogue.
