In Avowed, you will come across several significant choices over the course of your playthrough. One of these is the option to send the people of Fior to Thirdborn or Paradis, which comes at the end of the Ancient Soil questline. It is not apparent which choice is correct at first, and there will be later consequences depending on which move the player makes.
Like other choices in Avowed, this seemingly innocuous choice might have consequences players didn’t intend or have the ability to foresee. This can feel a little frustrating, as they might want one thing or another to happen to the people based on the player’s experience with them or the type of character they are attempting to portray. Some of the choices may seem to not matter as much, and here the answer is more complicated than it seems.
What Happens If You Send People Of Fior To Thirdborn
The Option That Seems Better At First Glance
Thirdborn may seem like the obvious choice, as everything players have seen so far would lead players to believe that the Animancers of Fior would be miserable in Paradis. Players will not yet have visited Dreamscourge, as it is the third place they will head on the journey to save people from the infection. At first, it will look like the people are well and peaceful and that they are rebuilding their old lives in Thirdborn.

"I’m Really Excited For Players Just To Get Into The Exploration": Avowed Developers On Worldbuilding, Quests & Its Annihilation Influences
ScreenRant spoke with Avowed's Game Director Carrie Patel and Region Director Berto Ritger to discuss the game's world-building and RPG elements.
However, this will not remain the case forever. When forced to make another choice later on, it can have dire consequences for the people of Fior. Players will find themselves at another crossroads during the Shadows of the Past main quest. Both choices will lead to deaths in the area, although one of them is more immediate. However, the choice presented by Ryngrim will lead to a more immediate death, and if you return to Thirdborn after, Quilicci will inform you of the news and how misfortune has followed them.
If you make the other choice, nothing will happen immediately, but people will begin to suffer and die as time progresses. It will be a little more subtle, but either way, the Shadows of the Past choice feels less consequential as people will suffer either way.
What Happens If You Send Them To Paradis
The Option Presented By The Governor
Having already explored Paradis, players will know that there is an avid wariness and rejection of Animancy in the region, particularly due to the zealousness of the Steel Garrote. The Steel Garrote are also the people that destroyed Fior in the first place, so it doesn’t feel right to send the people of Fior there when given the chance. Players will also know that Paradis is already facing issues of overcrowding, something that would incline them to send the people elsewhere.
Sending them to Paradis, however, will avoid the consequences of what happens in Thirdborn. The people will seem happy when you go to visit them in Paradis, and Quilicci will reward you, and thank you for protecting his people. But there are more consequences toward the end of the game after players think the danger is over.
You will have a choice near the end of Avowed as to whether or not to make the Living Lands independent. If you choose to do so, the final quest will reveal that some of the people of Fior have gone into hiding or are missing altogether. They will be unable to practice animancy, but they will be praised for their agricultural knowledge.
Why You Should Send The People Of Fior To Paradis
Sometimes Not Dying Is The Better Choice
This choice is complex, especially due to the long-term nature of the consequences. However, there are a few things to keep in mind, and players may want to consider which choice they are looking to make later in the game. The choice in Thirdborn will leave people dead either way, but the choice given by Ryngrim does buy people more time to stop the Dreamscourge. This choice will also have consequences for the ending of Avowed, and the people of Thirdborn may never trust anyone ever again.

Avowed Reviews Are In, But The Scores Fall Short Of Obsidian's Other Great RPGs
Leading up to the full release of Avowed, the game has garnered generally positive reviews, but with a score that falls short of other Obsidian RPGs.
In Paradis, players may be able to avoid the consequences by refusing to make the Living Lands independent, but that may not be the ending they are looking to make. However, while some of the people are in hiding or missing, this may be the best possible outcome. They may not be able to practice Animancy, at least not openly, but their relationship does improve thanks to their notable agricultural skills, and they will not be affected by the deaths in Thirdborn.
It’s not an easy decision, and either way they may not be happy at the end of the game. However, being alive is likely better than being dead after thinking they are at peace. There is no real good option here, both have some negative consequences, so players will have to decide what they wish to do with the people of Fior in Avowed and what is best long term for the people.
