Babylon's Fall, the epic collaboration between PlatinumGames and E3 was a relief to players. Recruitment for the beta was announced at the end of the game's latest trailer, which was released today at Square Enix's E3 showcase.
It's the first bit of significant information about PlatinumGames's latest project Nier: Automata. Babylon's Fall will also feature a more painterly style than its contemporaries, but other than that, details on the game have remained remarkably hush-hush since it was announced in 2018.
As such, the latest game trailer that Square Enix featured as part of its E3 demonstration was a welcome addition to the lineup. It elaborated more on its painterly style, but also revealed that the game utilizes co-op combat with up to four characters, known as Sentinels, battling their way up the biblically-inspired Tower of Babylon. Sentinels are capable of wielding four weapons at once thanks to a mystical tool known only as Gideon's Coffin, which lends well to the hack-and-slash combat, but magic and ranged attacks play a part as well. The end of the trailer also revealed that PlatinumGames is now actively recruiting for the game's closed beta. The beta will happen over three phases, each with their own testing goals, and will help the developers over at PlatinumGames get Babylon's Fall into an online multiplayer experience. The trailer gives more insight to this otherwise enigmatic game, but the release is a good sign that the hefty investment PlatinumGames recently received from major Chinese video game company Tencent has been well-spent towards the game's development. It also confirms that, sensibly, Babylon's Fall will be available for the PlayStation 5 as well as the 4, which is logical considering how long it will likely be before the game is released versus how long it's been since the PlayStation 5 hit shelves.
But when that release will happen is still a mystery, and PlatinumGames is still keeping Babylon's Fall and many of the details thereof particularly close to its chest. In the meantime, players interested in g up for the closed beta can do so on the game's official site.
