The highly anticipated zombie co-op shooter has gathered a lot of attention since its reveal in 2020 and its release date right around the corner, it is no surprise that we are getting some solid gameplay reveals about the long-awaited game.

Back 4 Blood was revealed at Game Awards 2020 and is being developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the developer behind the beloved Left 4 Dead series. While sharing plenty of similarities with its parent franchise, Back 4 Blood is confirmed to be a spiritual successor rather than a sequel to Left 4 Dead. The high paced gameplay and memorable level design is still present but the game now boasts much better graphics, gunplay, a brand new version of the AI Director used in previous games, and a robust card system that both the player and director use to change the game and characters within the game. The hype has continued to build around the new adventure as its Fall release date is just around the corner.

According to PlayStation Universe, a post on the Summer Game Fest Twitter , which is now deleted, indicated that a PvP showcase for Back 4 Blood is set for June 13th, 2021 at 2:00 pm PT. With the game's arcade gameplay, expanded AI systems, and character class system, it is easy to assume that the game boasts a similar multiplayer mode to that of Left 4 Dead. While no details are confirmed, Left 4 Dead allowed players to take control of the various special zombies that stalked survivors throughout the game. The enemy player team would play as survivors making their way through a level while not only avoiding the normal hordes of zombies but also avoiding zombies with special abilities controlled by other players.

Fans will have to wait until the reveal to know for sure the type of player versus player modes will be available in Back 4 Blood. It seems that Turtle Rock Studios is keeping a heavy focus on the replayability of its new zombie shooter with the previously mentioned card system and the ability to choose between an entire roster of diverse characters in Back 4 Blood, all of which have different play styles and abilities. This is sure to keep players coming back to mowing through hordes with friends again and again.

It has also been confirmed that post-launch content and cosmetic-only microtransactions are planned for Back 4 Blood. Back 4 Blood brings Left 4 Dead's beloved gameplay into the modern age and it will sure be interesting to see this type of co-op shooter thrive through post-launch add-ons and as well as an already strong fanbase. While the new game shares plenty of similarities with its precursor, Turtle Rock promises that this new experience will stand out on its own by utilizing the tried and true mechanics of the previous games while delivering a brand new experience that will reel in a whole new generation of zombie slayers while also satisfying their loyal series veterans.
