A new mod for change the appearance of the game's more notable characters, this particular mod takes aim at a very specific issue with Astarion.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator magnetuning, the appropriately titled "Astarion's De-Grinchifier" does what it says on the tin and relaxes the vampire face, resulting in an appearance that looks much less like Jim Carrey's take on The Grinch.

The creator of the mod notes that while they initially believed Astarion's stretched face to be an issue of LODs (Level of Detail) not loading correctly, they've since revised the theory and are currently looking into the cause. The mod itself is a mesh replacement for the character, meaning magnetuning didn't adjust any elements of Baldur's Gate 3's code.

It's worth noting that while Astarion currently resembles the Grinch, the ever-popular vampire hasn't always had such a strange expression. The most recent patch for Baldur's Gate 3 seemingly tweaked something with Astarion's model, resulting in his lips becoming extremely thin and his eyes narrowing as if he's constantly planning something sinister which, ittedly, does fit his character. While Larian Studios has already confirmed that it's currently working on a hotfix, the 'De-Grinchifier" mod is the best players can do if they want their beloved vamp to return to normal while waiting for the next patch.

Baldur's Gate 3 Is Simply Swimming In Mods

Given that Baldur's Gate 3 has been available to players since 2020, there is an abundance of mods available for the game. Larian Studios has stated that it wants to work with the community to further enhance the game, confirming its intentions to bring mod to consoles in its next major content update. If players are feeling adventurous with their modding, then they can tweak nearly every aspect of the game including removing the limit placed on how many party can be active at once or adding a new race plucked straight from Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition.
