Although the most popular options have been seen and done millions and millions of times according to Larian's posts, which puts into perspective how large the player base of Baldur's Gate 3 is, one of the least popular has been seen by hardly anyone. This is equally impressive because of the number of players, and involves numerous decisions as well as beating the game. This is an ending specifically for Lae'zel, and by the time of the one-year anniversary, only thirty-four people out of the millions that have played the game have seen it first hand.

The Least Popular Ending That Most Players Will Never See

Lae'zel Must Be The Avatar Character

As of patch 5, Larian added character-specific endings, as well as an epilogue that involved the surviving of Tav's adventuring group having a party hosted by the mysterious Withers. These character-specific endings can be accessed by having one of the usual party be the avatar character, meaning that neither Tav nor Durge lead the party. For example, if Gale is the avatar character, and becomes a god, there is a scene where he talks to Mystra in his divine form after defeating the Netherbrain.

When he ascends to divinity, Gale becomes the God of Ambition, and can turn his romanced partner into a god as well.

Not all characters are equally chosen as avatars, with Astarion, Gale and Shadowheart rounding out the top three in that order. To unlock BG3's least-seen ending, players will need to take control of Lae'zel, which alters the opening as well, since Lae'zel is the first NPC encountered by any avatar character besides herself. Most Origin characters have two diverging paths players can take for them, with Lae'zel's being either remaining true to Vlaakith or siding with Prince Orpheus.

Typically, for Origin characters, there is a clear path that is meant to be good and bad. For instance, Shadowheart has the option of becoming a Dark Justiciar of Shar (the bad path) or a Selûnite (the good path). This ending requires that Lae'zel takes the bad path of remaining true to Vlaakith, which one would assume would be the lesser chosen path, then fail Vlaakith, meaning that Lae'zel's ascension is denied. Because of this denial, the gith can choose to kill herself, which is also something very little will decide on.

The Saddest Lae'zel Ending Is Difficult To Achieve

This ending involves beating the game, which is a hard enough process given how long BG3 is. On top of that, players must choose Lae'zel as an avatar, then choose to follow her evil path by remaining loyal to Vlaakith. After choosing to side with Vlaakith, the player must then choose to fail her, which can result in failing to kill Orpheus or otherwise allowing the gith rebellion against Vlaakith to flourish, and then decide that Lae'zel must kill herself. It is a wonder that Larian even included the ending in the first place.

There are technically 17,000 variations to BG3's ending, which is more than impressive and borders on slightly ridiculous.

It is not surprising that only thirty-four people have seen this specific ending for Lae'zel, since those that choose to side with Vlaakith will likely see her will be done. Siding with her does end in Lae'zel's death anyway, since the Ascension process involves being killed to be revived as a kind of elite, gith zombie that will serve the immortal queen forevermore. This ending is bad enough for Lae'zel, and most players, besides the magical thirty-four, likely believed that this would have been the worst one for everyone's favorite gith.

After a year and all the updates that Larian has included, players are still discovering more about the game. Sometimes, it requires some help from the developers themselves with them revealing specific statistics, but it goes to show how wonderfully detailed the world and stories of Baldur's Gate 3 really are. There will likely be even more to uncover in years to come and there could even be other secret endings as hard to achieve as Lae'zel's saddest one.
