The time for solving problems with songs might finally be here, as the announcement for the next Baldur's Gate 3 uses D&D 5e rules and already features most of the classes from the Player's Handbook, but the game is still in Early Access, and it has been gradually adding content over time, including classes.
As of the time of writing, the D&D classes that are available in Baldur's Gate 3 are the barbarian, druid, cleric, fighter, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, warlock, and wizard. These classes are also missing subclasses from the Player's Handbook, so they're not fully represented in the game. This means that the remaining Player's Handbook classes that need to be added to Baldur's Gate 3 are the bard, paladin, and monk, all of which are popular with the fans, and are highly-anticipated additions to the game. It's unclear whether the remaining subclasses will be added to Baldur's Gate 3, but developer Larian Studios seems poised to at least bring the remaining classes to the game.
The most recent class that was added to Baldur's Gate 3 was the barbarian back in February. Larian Studios is finally ready to announce the next update for Baldur's Gate 3, as the official Larian Studios Twitter page has announced a from Hell event, which will be held at 10 AM PST / 7 PM CEST on July 7, 2022. The picture for the announcement has fans speculating that a bard announcement is on the way, as the event is being held in a music theatre, and the P in the word has a feathered cap hanging from it, which is a piece of clothing associated with bards.
In D&D 5e, the bard is a primary spellcaster class, with a range of healing, buffing, illusion, and enchanting spells. Bards can use their singing ability to grant buffs to their allies and increase the efficiency of a short rest. The Player's Handbook has two bard subclasses and they'll both likely be in Baldur's Gate 3. The College of Lore bards can use their words to weaken enemies, while the College of Valor bards can inspire their allies to deal more damage in combat. Larian Studios has hinted in the past that the gnome race is coming to Baldur's Gate 3, and it would be a perfect idea to bring them in together, as bards and gnomes were closely tied together in D&D 3.5.
If the bard is added in the next Baldur's Gate 3 patch, then that means either the paladin or the monk is next. More importantly, it signals that the game is closer to completion than it was before. The developers have been gradually chipping away at Baldur's Gate 3 for years while it has been in Early Access, and fans are eager to play the full version of the game. Bringing bards into the game will hopefully help keep the fans engaged until Baldur's Gate 3 launches in 2023.
