Summary
- Choosing to ally with Lorroakan in Baldur's Gate 3 may not be worth it due to his questionable intentions and lack of convincing goals.
- Handing over Dame Aylin to Lorroakan for the 5,000 gold reward may not be as beneficial as keeping her as a powerful ally for the final battle.
- Betraying the Nightsong and siding with Lorroakan can make the fight against him easier, but it may also involve the potential complications of keeping Rolan alive.
Dealing with Lorroakan's interest in Nightsong is a major piece of side content in Act 3 of find an artifact called the Nightsong. The tiefling Rolan also mentions the wizard, as he's particularly excited about an apprenticeship that Lorroakan has offered him.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Act 2 and Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
If the Nightsong did simply turn out to be an artifact, handing it over to Lorroakan might not be as much of a concern for a Good-aligned party. As Act 2 reveals, however, the Nightsong is actually an aasimar named Dame Aylin and the daughter of goddess Selûne. Ketheric Thorm holds her in captivity inside the Shadowfell to apply her immortality to himself, and her blood is used for a Sharran rite that requires her to die and be reborn over and over. Although Lorroakan is less obviously evil than Ketheric Thorm, his own intentions likewise come across as questionable.
Helping Lorroakan In Baldur's Gate 3 Isn't Worth It
Meeting Lorroakan makes one thing very clear in Baldur's Gate 3 - he's a fool, and not a particularly likable one. It's consequently hard to justify siding with him, as he isn't particularly convincing about his goals or ability from a narrative perspective, despite his status as a well-known wizard. The big reason why the choice might still be tempting is that Lorroakan offers a 5,000 gold bounty for the Nightsong, a sum that could buy some powerful equipment or replenish stocks of potions and elixirs for the party.

Should You Side With Gortash Or Kill Him In Baldur's Gate 3?
Gortash seems like an irredeemable villain in Baldur’s Gate 3, but there are benefits to siding with him. Here are the complexities of Gortash’s deal.
Even in of profits, however, it's hard to see the gold as a more worthwhile reward than what's lost by handing over Dame Aylin to Lorroakan's clutches. She's an exceptionally powerful ally, and the help that she promises in the final battle is likely more effective than anything that the gold might be spent on. Although Lorroakan will be gained as an ally in her place, most of the resources that he brings to the table are still possible to access without actually taking his side, although this can depend on choices made earlier in the story.
Although Isobel isn't involved in the fight with Lorroakan, she will turn her back on the party if Dame Aylin is betrayed, costing the party another powerful ally.
Roleplaying as an evil character might make tossing the Nightsong into the clutches of a heartless wizard an appealing prospect, but it's not a choice that's even likely to arise for most wicked parties. Killing the Nightsong in Act 2 tends to make more sense for a truly dark path, and simply handing her over to Lorroakan is a comparatively anticlimactic route. It might ultimately be the more despicable thing to do, however, cong her once more to an eternity of ing someone else's immortality.
Betraying The Nightsong Makes A BG3 Fight Easier
One possible reason to still take Lorroakan's side is the fight that triggers when bringing the Nightsong into his domain, an action that has to be taken to complete the side story regardless of which side the party chooses. Siding with the Nightsong means the party will also have to face Lorroakan's minions, while betraying her stacks the odds in the party's favor. With several different elemental Myrmidons in Lorroakan's service, the overall amount of HP to chew through is much higher when attempting to help Dame Aylin.

Was Baldur's Gate 3 Really The Best Game Of 2023? Retrospective
Baldur's Gate 3 is an obvious choice for the year's best game, but declaring a single winner of such a prestigious title is rarely a simple affair.
Even so, the Lorroakan fight isn't one of the hardest in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3, and it should be manageable for any well-prepared party. One possible complication is the potential involvement of Rolan, the tiefling from Act 1 who will have found himself in Lorroakan's employ if he's survived this far. He's willing to turn on his master, and can actually be a help in the battle, but keeping him alive could also divert some of the party's resources and attention depending on the luck of the dice. Although letting him die might be tempting, there's a good reason to help him make it through.
Rolan Can Replace Lorroakan In Baldur's Gate 3
Lorroakan starts out as an annoyingly pompous character in Baldur's Gate 3, but the events of the story tend to go a long way in humbling him, and the heroic exploits of the party can serve as a model for him to aspire to. By the time that the choice between Lorroakan and Dame Aylin comes, his iration for Lorroakan has significantly faded, and it's clear that he disagrees with Lorroakan's more heartless tendencies. Rolan would make a much better master for the Lorroakan's tower, and as fate would so have it, that's just the role that he inherits if Lorroakan is killed.
Rolan taking control of the tower is a great thing for the party in general, maintaining the promise of its resources in the final conflict without losing Dame Aylin as an ally. It also provides some minor compensations for the lack of Lorroakan's bounty, as Roland is a bit more generous in other regards. Anyone invested in the story of Rolan's siblings who's managed to ensure their survival so far can also secure them a safe home with this maneuver, as his immediate course of action is to invite them in to live in his newly acquired property.
There are definitely significant advantages to siding with either Lorroakan or the Nightsong in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3, but it's generally hard to argue that helping Lorroakan makes more sense on the whole. It's still a valid choice for the right party, but it shouldn't be the default option for anyone. The Nightsong is a mighty ally to have on hand in Baldur's Gate 3, and at the end of the day, Lorroakan just isn't all that he's cracked up to be.
