Quick Links
Baldur's Gate 3 players will be tasked with tracking down all sorts of characters throughout their playthrough, and perhaps one of the most interesting is a missing mushroom picker named Baelen, who was last seen looking for Noblestalk. The associated quest is appropriately named 'Find The Mushroom Picker.'
Noblestalk is a healing species of fungi and, therefore, very desirable. While on the path to some, Baelen has seemingly disappeared. While in the Myconid Colony, the party will come across Derryth, Baelen's wife. Though she won't seem concerned about her husband's welfare, she'll still ask to keep an eye out for him, thus beginning this Baldur's Gate 3 quest.
Where To Find Baelen
Baelen's general location should be marked, so head northwest towards it. Once reaching the general area, there should be a very noticeable area of glowing green mushrooms. Baelen should be easy enough to spot, as he will immediately issue a warning about coming any closer. At this point, his predicament will become quite clear. He's surrounded, and effectively trapped, by a collection of Bibberbang plants. Don't take his warning lightly, as the mushrooms produce flammable gas, so messing around here will very quickly make things too hot to handle.
In moments like this, where Baldur's Gate 3 can have a variety of unpredictable and catastrophic outcomes, it's best to save your progress rather than be stuck with the consequences of a wrong choice.
How To Rescue Baelen
There are quite a few options on how to proceed, but go ahead and turn off group mode so the party doesn't kill everyone by following along. Once that's done, it's time to save Baelen. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but there are several opportunities for various methods to fail, which is why saving is recommended. You can get creative, but ultimately, the goal is to teleport Baelen from his trapped location. He has a scroll for Misty Step in his bag, but it is out of his reach. use whichever spell in Baldur's Gate 3 or options are available to you to retrieve it for him.
Examples include the Mage Hand spell or a Flying Summon to help retrieve the bag for him, or if you happen to have Misty Step, you can teleport over to the bag and then bring it to Baelen, who can then teleport out. Additionally, if you have a scroll for the Misty Step, attempt to toss it to him, but note that it could fail and be entirely wasted. A more reliable option is to use Lae'zel to jump over the Bibberbang. These are just a handful of the several options at your disposal, so feel free to use any method.
Before leaving, carefully grab the Noblestalk hidden among the Bibberbang. Then return to Derryth, where Baelen has also now returned. The party may choose to either use the Noblestalk to cure the poisoned Gnome, which is not a good idea because it can be cured through other means, or give it to Derryth. Giving it to Derryth will allow her store to remain open for business, and she will ask you to visit. Additionally, you will receive a piece of armor in Baldur's Gate 3, the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo, for your efforts in this quest.
