To solve the Open Hand Temple murders in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3, players must figure out where and how to use the Strange Flowery Key. Perhaps one of the longest quests in the game, consisting of multiple side quests, players are sent on a wild goose to find who is responsible for these murders as they stumble across various items that bring them closer to the answer.
When players find the Flowery Key, little information or guidance is provided, demonstrating a true murder-mystery plot line that makes Act 3 all the more interesting. While players can opt to thoroughly explore the areas in Act 3 as they should, there are ways to streamline this quest to get the information you need right away, allowing you to focus on more important endeavors in the city of Baldur's Gate.

How To Solve The Open Hand Temple Murders In Baldur's Gate 3
There are several murders to solve in Baldur's Gate 3, but the Open Hand Temple Murders will require a little more effort to solve than others.
Where To Find The Strange Flowery Key
Open Hand Temple Basement
When visiting the Open Hand Temple in Rivington, the party can volunteer to investigate a brutal murder. The trail leads to an underground cellar, found through a hatch door in the kitchen of the Open Hand Temple in BG3. To enter the cave, you must a Perception Check on the Heraldic Signs found on the walls, which reveal a hidden room where you must use the Jump action to through the stone shelves on the south side.
Alternatively, you can also enter the cave from Wyrm's Crossing by heading north down the rocks across the beach line, where you will find a Cave Mouth directly under the bridge.
Whichever route you take, you will find the Flowery Key as loot on one of the dead bodies of bloodthirsty, shapeshifting assassins who initiate a fight upon turning into vicious monsters. You can also find another quest item named 'Clown's Severed Torso,' which belonged to Dribbles the Clown in BG3, allowing you to advance this side quest.
Pickling up the Flowery Key essential item will help you continue your investigation, but there won't be any further guidance on how to use it, forcing players to explore the city. To expedite this, players must head to Flaygo's Flophouse, where you can use the key.
Where To Find Flaygo's Flophouse
South Span of Wyrm's Crossing
Before leaving the Open Hand Temple, make sure to investigate the crime scene a bit more closely. If you use Speak With Dead in BG3, you can obtain extra information from the killers themselves. A successful Perception check at (X:67, Y:-1018) will reveal a hole containing the murder weapon: the enchanted Stillmaker dagger.
Fraygo's Flophouse is a bunkhouse and hostel located in the southwestern part of Wyrm's Crossing, directly opposite Sharess' Caress in Baldur's Gate 3. If you still have trouble finding the right building, use the South Span of Wyrm's Crossing Waypoint. The building is directly opposite, across the street. As soon as you enter, you will immediately gain XP points, hinting that the inn is a quest area.
Make sure to include Astarion in your party when visiting Fraygo's Flophouse. If he's present, the party can interact with some vampire spawn to get additional context for Astarion's companion quest to find and beat Cazador in BG3.

Reveals A Secret Room Behind A Wardrobe
To use the Flowery Key, head up to the second floor and enter the room on the right, as seen in eYm's video. You will then find a ladder that you can interact with to climb up to the attic. Upon looking around, the room appears to have mundane objects and furniture, but in reality, the large wardrobe is a secret ageway that, when interacted with using the key, will reveal and transport you to a hidden room.
Inside the hidden area in BG3 is a lot of evidence for your investigation. The most important item to pick up is the Bloodstained Parchment on the table, which lists more potential victims of a murder spree in honor of Bhaal. You will then get an update on three separate quests in Baldur's Gate 3:
- Impress The Murder Tribunal
- Investigate The Murders
- Solve The Open Hand Temple Murders
Anyone who kills all the targets gains an audience with the Dread Lord's Tribunal and can enter Bhaal's temple in BG3 or use the sewer system within the Lower City. You can also stop the murders by warning the victims throughout the Lower City or hunt and kill them yourself if you're evil-aligned.
By ing a Perception Check, you can also discover some blood stains under the bed and then the body of the Stern Librarian Ffion, an employee of Sharess' Caress, upon ing the Investigation Skill Check to follow. Make sure to use Speak with Dead on Ffion's body to gain more information and advance the Open Hand Temple Murders quest.
You can report to her employer, Mamzell Amira, in Sharess' Caress, who will reward you by letting you hire the Drow Twins, a couple of one-time romance partners, for a discount.
Flaygo's Flophouse Rewards
Use Ffion's Key To Obtain Loot
Now that you've used the Flower Key and received more information for your quests in Act 3 of BG3 make sure to pick up lots of useful items found within the hidden room. In one of the chests, you can pick up some Poisons, as well as various clothing and armor pieces.
On the Librarian's body, you will find a ring named 'To the Best of Wives and Mothers', which can be sold for Gold, as well as 'Ffion's Key', which unlocks a chest found on the lower floor of Flaygo's Flophouse. To find this chest of valuable loot, head back to the second floor, from which you climb the ladder.
This time, go to the leftmost room, where you will see two NPCs speaking among themselves. Use a stealthy character like Astarion to Crouch to sneakily unlock and steal a Potion of Greater Healing, a Smokepowder Bomb, a diary, and some Gold.
Once you have collected your rewards and XP, conclude this part of the investigation by heading to Sharess' Caress and speaking to Investigator Valeria to present your evidence. Despite her skepticism, she will direct the party to speak with Gauntlet Devella, who can help with the investigation. To do this, she will provide a , allowing you to enter the Lower City and continue your adventures in Baldur's Gate 3.
