After nearly twenty years, Baldur's Gate 3 released on the PC this past October. Fans of the older games were finally able to see the D&D-inspired RPG brought to life with modern graphics and reimagined gameplay mechanics. However, the game is only in Early Access for players at the moment, and has received few updates since release day. While the patches have been thoughtful and improved the game's quality, some may be wondering what new content is to come for Baldur's Gate 3 in the coming year.

Many players found themselves unable to even start Baldur's Gate 3 on launch day after paying full price for the unfinished game. Due to difficulties with the engine used to Baldur's Gate 3, it would hang on a black screen, forcing players to quit. While a workaround was found using a different engine in the following days, it made for a bumpy start for the long-awaited addition to the series, dampening player spirits. This was one of the larger issues in a list of reported bugs which also included things like broken cinema graphics and spell management issues for magic mechanics.

There are high expectations for Baldur's Gate 3 due to the fact that Larian Studios, the developer for Baldur's Gate 3's release there have been a few large patches, and the developers are incorporating player into the changes listed in the Dev logs. This bodes well for the series, as the game is being built with the players in mind, instead of leaving fan-encouraged elements unfinished because it is more work for developers.

Hopefully players will get to see new content added in the coming months, instead of just fixes to what is already available. Developers could release new Baldur's Gate 3 areas for players to explore on the game's large map, as well as new races and classes to encourage players to make new saves and explore the changes made to the available base content. It would also be interesting to have more companions added to the game for those who have already worked their way through the available character storylines. With luck, 2021 will offer Baldur's Gate 3 players a big jump in overall available gameplay.

While nothing has been confirmed by Baldur's Gate 3 developers on what players might specifically see in the coming months, hopefully the game will move away from the Early Access stage before the end of 2021 and become a more polished title like Larian Studios fans are used to receiving. With the game in such an early stage of development, Baldur's Gate 3 has a long way to go, and early access players will have to sit tight as they wait for future content to be added.
