A new set of all six BG3 Origin characters, plus Withers. However, when orders started to arrive, players found that their favorite characters had wonky eyes, strange facial expressions, and an overall melted look.

According to a post on the official WizKids website, first spotted by Kotaku, players who purchased the set through WizKids' official website or local retailers may now return their figures for a full refund. Replacements are also available through WizKids' official forum. WizKids apologized for the apparently poor quality of the figurines, saying, "WizKids seeks to create products that enhance and add to the enjoyment of game play...Unfortunately, we missed the mark on this goal."

Fans Reacted Negatively To BG3 Miniatures

A Withered Withers

WizKids' Baldur's Gate 3 miniatures were initially announced last fall, becoming available for preorder shortly after. They apparently began arriving last week, as player reactions to the quality of product received began pouring in. A series of photos of the miniatures was collected and posted by Reddit VeRGIL_47, showing a series of issues. Of particular note here is Shadowheart's misaligned right eye, Gale's unnaturally low facial features, Lae'zel's receding hairline, and Astarion's unnaturally well-groomed eyebrows.

Every Patch 8 Subclass In Baldur's Gate 3 Is Fun, But I Wish This One Was Different

All of the new subclasses introduced in Patch 8 of Baldur's Gate 3 are excellent, but one from D&D's archetypes could have been an even better choice.

Upon receiving the minis, fan reactions were largely negative. One such complaint came from @HighLODLar on X (formerly Twitter), a Senior Cinematic Artist on Baldur's Gate 3, who complained that the figures looked to have been painted by a child, a quality of work that doesn't justify a $50 price tag.

Others held that players who purchased the minis should've known better. One , Far_Pop7184 on Reddit, called this "standard quality" for WizKids, which has faced similar complaints before.

Still, it's hard to fault players for wanting little miniature versions of their favorite BG3 characters. Many fans don't know better: BG3 was a lot of players' first introduction to D&D, and to those players, painted minis are somewhat of a foreign concept.

Thankfully, refunds are now available for many players unsatisfied with the quality of their WizKids BG3 figurines. If you purchased directly from the WizKids website, you can open a case by ing their customer service department, and if you purchased from a local game store, you should be able to walk right in and make a return. WizKids also says it's looking into what went wrong with the set, and working on ensuring this doesn't happen in the future.

WizKids' Response Was Good But Sad To See

BG3 Deserves Better

Initial controversy aside, it's safe to say WizKids did the right thing by adjusting its refund policy for the BG3 set. However, Baldur's Gate 3 deserved a better collection of minis in the first place. It's one of the high-quality turn-based RPGs that have followed in its wake. It got lots of fans into Dungeons & Dragons, and those players deserved to have a better first-time experience buying minis.

Even longtime fans, though, deserved better. $50 is a lot in this economy - anybody spending that kind of cash deserves a quality product. The official Baldur's Gate 3 miniatures should've come out a lot better than they did in the first place, but at least WizKids is doing the right thing by offering refunds.
