Of all the magic-wielding classes in Baldur's Gate 3, none has proved more popular than the sorcerer. Ranking at number two since the launch of the game, it seems that plenty of parties setting out to save Faerûn from the Absolute have a powerful innate magic amongst them. Of course, everyone's sorcerer will be different, but some particular feats in BG3 will make the most out of this fun class.

With over 40 feats in Baldur's Gate 3, the choice can be slightly overwhelming, especially to those unfamiliar with their Dungeons & Dragons counterparts. Sorcerers will get three feats in BG3 at levels four, eight, and 12 making choosing the right ones all the more important. Looking at a mixture that expands the sorcerer's spell list, makes the most out of their magic, and increases survivability, here are some of the best feats to choose when building a sorcerer in BG3.

10 Great Feats For Paladins In Baldur’s Gate 3

Paladins are a strong and versatile class in Baldur's Gate 3, so knowing which of the many feats to choose to make them even better is important.

10 Skilled - Adds Proficiency In New Skills

Great For Out Of Combat Utility

Skilled is a great feat for those looking to expand a sorcerer's usefulness outside combat. Skilled grants proficiency in three new skills adding to the two that would have been chosen at character creation for a sorcerer and any already gained from race and background.

As the main character, many of the in-dialogue skill checks will be performed by Tav, so giving them more proficiencies increases the chances of success no matter the situation.

9 Lucky - Gain Advantage Or Force Enemy Rerolls

Prevent Both Critical Hits And Misses

Lucky is a great all-round feat that gives a character three Luck Points per long rest that can be used in a few ways. The Luck Points can be used to gain advantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws which is useful in and out of combat.

But they can also force enemies to reroll attack rolls and when playing a squishier class stopping enemies from getting crits can be the difference between victory and a party wipe.

Lucky pairs very well with the Wild Magic ability Bend Luck, which can also impose a 1d4 bonus or penalty to attack rolls, ability checks and saving throws to make a pretty unstoppable sorcerer.

8 Actor - Increase Charisma And Gain Expertise

Helps With Dialogue Skill Checks

To add to a character's effectiveness outside of combat Actor is a great feat as it works very well with a sorcerer's main ability of Charisma. Actor increases the sorcerer's Charisma score by one, which will help with their attack rolls, spell DCs, and better prices at vendors. This feat also grants expertise in Deception and Performance, doubling the proficiency bonus for both skills, turning the sorcerer into a silver-tongued menace.

7 Ritual Caster - Adds Two New Spells

Choose New Spells That Don’t Require Spell Slots

Unlike wizards, sorcerers have a more limited spell list, as they are unable to add to their repertoire by learning from spell scrolls. Ritual Caster is a great way to expand the number of spells a sorcerer has access to and, if cast outside of combat, ritual spells don't use up precious spell slots.

Two ritual spells can be learned from the list of enhanced leap, disguise self, find familiar, longstrider, speak with dead, and speak with animals, with all six excellent and beneficial choices.

6 Alert - A Boost To Initiative

Make Sure The Party Controls The Battle Field

Alert is another great all-around feat that every class can benefit from, and it nudges initiative and combat firmly in the party’s favor. Sorcerers have access to some fantastic control spells such as hold person and slow as well as spells that set up combat to give the party an edge like haste or enlarge.

As Alert gives a brilliant plus five to initiative it increases the likeliness of the sorcerer being at the start of the combat round with the added bonus of preventing them from being surprised.

Baldur's Gate 3 is imposing in stature and its best moments are truly memorable, but some early issues with scale suggest an uneven experience.

5 Elemental Adept - Ignore Elemental Damage Resistances

Hit Harder Against Even Strong Enemies

Draconic Bloodline sorcerers can do extra damage with the damage type associated with their draconic ancestry, and pairing this with Elemental Adept will allow for even more damage. Elemental Adept allows spells cast by the sorcerer to ignore resistance to a choice type of damage such as cold, fire, or acid. It also treats any 1s rolled as part of damage as 2s further enhancing the damage dealt.

This feat works well for any sorcerers, but synergizes with Draconic Bloodline's level six Elemental Affinity: Damage in particular.

4 Spell Sniper - Increase The Odds Of A Crit

Adds More Spells And Increases Chances Of High Damage

A sorcerer's primary damage output is their spells, so anything that increases the number of spells known and helps land critical hits is an excellent choice. Spell Sniper does both by allowing an extra cantrip to be learned so long as it requires an attack roll such as bone chill, eldritch blast, or ray of frost. However, the most useful aspect of Spell Sniper is that it reduces the number needed to get at critical hit by one, and this stacks with other abilities and items that do that same.

3 Magic Initiate - Learn Spells From Other Classes

Choose From Charisma Based Spells Or Branch Out Into Something New

Magic Initiate is a feat that is broken down into six versions, one for each of the spellcasting classes. This feat allows the sorcerer to learn two cantrips and a first-level spell from the spell list of another class, which can be used once per long rest. This is fantastic for not only expanding the sorcerer's repertoire but also giving them new spells they wouldn't usually have access to, such as cure wounds or hellish rebuke.

When casting spells using Magic Initiate the spell will use the spellcasting ability of the original class such as Wisdom for cleric spells or Intelligence for wizard spells. For that reason, Bard and Warlock are perhaps the best choices as they also use Charisma.

2 Tough - Extra Hit Points

Makes Squishy Spellcasters Less Squishy One Level At A Time

Tough is a great early feat to take for any class, but really comes in handy with squishier spellcaster classes such as Sorcerer. Tough increases the sorcerer's hit point maximum by two each time they level up. This might not sound like a lot but an extra 24 hit points at level 12 can make all the difference, especially when not wearing any armor.

1 War Caster - Helps Maintain Concentration Spells

A Powerful Feat For Any Spellcaster

Perhaps the best feat for any sorcerer in Baldur's Gate 3 to pick up is War Caster. This feat allows the sorcerer to use the cantrip shocking grasp as a reaction if they already have it, if they don’t then Magic Initiate can help. But the key part of the War Caster feat is that it gives advantage to saving throws to maintain concentration on spells, and it cannot be overstated how crucial this is for any spellcasting class.
