After multiple Game of the Year awards and millions of copies sold, Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios tells fans to keep their eye on the future. While Baldur's Gate 3 is the video game that put Larian Studios on the map, the developers want fans to know they won't be resting on their laurels.

As spotted by VideoGamer, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke took to Twitter to talk about the incredible journey Larian Studios has been on and that fans should "stay tuned" for the next part of their story. Since its release in 2023, Baldur's Gate 3 has been a surprise runaway hit for the studio, vindicating their work that began in 2016.

The Dungeons & Dragons-based RPG has been tirelessly ed by the studio since its release, but the developer has announced their next game would not be a sequel to Baldur's Gate 3. However, there has been no official announcement as to what Larian's next game could be.

What prompted Vincke's trip down memory lane was a video from YouTuber renewed interest thanks to fans discovering Larian through Baldur's Gate 3. However, they weren't always success stories for the studio, as in the early 2000s Larian was forced to do contract work to stay afloat and had to shelve their projects, according to Veteran Joystick.

While looking toward the future, Vincke said he'd not like to repeat the studio's early financial struggles, saying, "Going to try to skip the dark night of the soul moment though if you don't mind." Still, nostalgia is potent and Vincke noted his excitement for the next chapter of the studio. We know that won't involve Baldur's Gate, as Vincke explained there would be no Baldur's Gate 3 DLC and that Larian is moving away from D&D entirely.

It's A Secret Only Vincke And His Team Know

With the release of Patch 8 coming this year, Larian's major updates for Baldur's Gate 3 will end. Speculation is now fully turned to their next game, but the studio isn't giving away many clues. According to a statement from the studio provided to VideoGamer, the majority of developers at Larian are focused on their next game. The studio also explained they'll be moving toward a "media blackout" as development on this next game intensifies.

What little information we do have about their next game comes from Vincke himself, who let it slip that it could be ready around 2028 or 2029. That's not too long of a wait for fans, but delays are common in the video game industry. Further, Baldur's Gate 3 was in early access for three years before its 2023 release, so their next game may be even further away. Still, whenever Larian's next game releases, there is going to be a hungry fanbase ready to go on another adventure.
