between John Wick 3 and 4, the spinoff brings Keanu Reeves back to the franchise, following de Armas' assassin, a girl who witnessed her father's death and became involved in the underground world. The movie, which will hit the theaters on June 6, 2025, will also feature the familiar faces of Charon (Lance Reddick) and The Director (Anjelica Huston).

In an interview with Collider, de Armas and McShane reveal a cut scene between Eve and Winston that won't be in the final movie. When asked what their favorite scenes are, de Armas shares that she likes the "grenade fight," which is "long distance" but gets "intimate and nasty." McShane mentions that Eve tries to start a fight with Winston at the Continental, and he's "furious" that one of the scenes isn't in the final movie. The actor reveals that it's "a fight scene with dialogue," where Eve tries to "get information" from Winston, and the end result is a realization. Check out what McShane said below:

DE ARMAS: For me, I do love the grenade fight. You see a little bit of that in the trailer, but that grenade fight is really long. The location is really cool, the way it happens and is set up is really cool, and it’s a combination of throwing a grenade, which is long distance, but it gets very intimate and nasty. It’s a lot of people in there, so I really like it.

MCSHANE: We have a long scene together where she comes to visit me at the Continental and tries to fight…

DE ARMAS: We had a fight scene that got cut from the movie.

MCSHANE: We don’t talk about that. I’m furious. They cut one of my fight scenes. But my scenes are dialogue fight scenes. We have a scene where you try to get information from me, and that’s like getting blood out of a stone, as we say, trying to get Winston to give anything away. So, in a sense, it’s a fight scene with dialogue, which you only accept after you know that I’m on your side.

What Their Comments Mean For Ballerina

Eve Isn't John Wick

One thing that John Wick has never done is a fight with Winston. The reveal of the cut verbal fight between Eve and Winston further clarifies that de Armas' Eve will be very different from Keanu Reeves' Baba Yaga, despite the two of them having a similar background. De Armas has previously talked about how Eve will be similar and different from Wick. She revealed that her assassin has the same "the background of that training that John had," which the film will delve into more, but "Eve Macarro is Eve Macarro."

De Armas' favorite grenade scene, as teased in Ballerina's trailer, also sheds some light on the very different fighting scenes and styles that Eve will have. While John Wick specializes in close-range battles with a handgun, Eve will likely have a different preference. On Eve's relationship with Winston, McShane previously revealed that Winston knows "secrets about her that she will try to find out later on," which gives insight into the cut scene.

Our Take On Ballerina

Winston Isn't Going To Have An Easy Time With Eve

Director Len Wiseman clarified during the featurette preview at CCXP that they are not trying to make a movie about a "female John Wick." Instead, the sequel tells a story about how a person enters the dangerous world of assassins "from the beginning." That said, Eve has many unresolved issues and questions that she'll likely look for answers and resolutions in the Ballerina.

The cut scene also indicates that Eve is in a completely different emotional state than John Wick, who has already retired in the first movie. As a newcomer, Eve will be able to share a completely different perspective on the world of the Continental and the High Table. Winston, on the other hand, is a person with tight lips. He didn't reveal John Wick's true parentage until the end of John Wick: Chapter 4. It'll be very interesting to see how he'll be able to keep the truth from Eve in Ballerina.
