Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for DC vs Vampires #12
In the final issue of Batgirl carries significant implications, practically guaranteeing a second chapter in the near future. Following the shocking reveal that Dick Grayson is the new Vampire King in this alternate DC universe, Batgirl swore she'd get her revenge after Nightwing betrayed and killed most of the Bat-Family, taking over the world with his legions of vampires. However, the final issue carries a far more surprising turn few likely saw coming.
In DC vs Vampires #12 from Matthew Rosenberg, James Tynion IV, and Otto Schmidt, the few surviving heroes in Gotham who hadn't been turned into vampires gave everything they had to get Barbara Gordon and Harley Quinn face-to-face with the sinister Nightwing. However, Harley was unable to stop Grayson from turning Batgirl in his desire to make her his queen. Instantly corrupted, Barbara offers Harley to Nightwing as a meal for them to share. Drinking Quinn's blood first, Nightwing has no idea that Quinn's blood is poisoned, causing him to brutally burn alive. Although this was exactly what Batgirl planned, her unexpected corruption resulted in her taking Grayson's throne by the series' end, becoming the new Vampire Queen rather than saving the world.
Batgirl Just Changed DC's Entire Vampire War
With Nightwing out of the way, Batgirl believes her new reign will be unopposed. It's certainly a major turn of events that will catch the rest of the world's heroes by surprise. Claiming that Nightwing was her only weakness just as she was his, Batgirl wastes no time asserting her authority over her new subjects. Calling herself the vampire war's last casualty, it stands to reason that a second chapter of DC vs Vampires would be incredibly devastating, seeing as how Batgirl knows where the surviving heroes are based and what their plans are.
That being said, there is some hope. Supergirl lives and has regained her full power, fully intending to break the endless cloud cover the vampires created to block the sun, thereby allowing them to roam the Earth 24/7 (while also weakening Kryptonians such as Kara). Likewise, Oliver Queen's Green Arrow has been working to liberate all the human blood farms the vampires established, some of the biggest ones located in Smallville. As such, the human resistance and their ability to fight back will likely grow, even if they have to completely evacuate and regroup in the face of the new Vampire Queen.
At any rate, it would be very exciting to see where things go next. Batgirl has successfully killed Nightwing, a dark act that should have helped save the world but has shockingly made the global vampire takeover even worse. Here's hoping DC vs Vampires continues very soon. DC vs Vampires #12 is on sale now from DC Comics.
