Mark Hamill shares an emotional tribute to his How Joker & Harley Quinn Met In Batman: The Animated Series "Mad Love"
How Mark Hamill & Kevin Conroy Impacted the Batman Franchise
Although Batman: The Animated Series originally aired only 85 episodes from 1992 to 1995, the series' impact on the larger Batman franchise carries much further, thanks in part to the popularity of Conroy and Hamill's roles as Batman and Joker. In particular, Conroy's portrayal of Batman became known as the definitive voice of the character. He presented The Dark Knight as both gruff and sensitive in turns, and he held the record for portraying Batman longer than anyone else with 30 years of experience. Conroy's Batman is so beloved that many have itted to hearing his voice in their heads while reading the comics.
Hamill's role as the Joker had a similar impact on the franchise, with many debating his stance as the best version of the character when paired against his live-action counterpart, The Dark Knight's Heath Ledger. After working alongside Conroy in Batman: The Animated Series, Hamill also reprised the character for a broad range of DC projects. He ed Conroy for the animated film, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, the DC Animated Universe's Superman: The Animated Series, and the Batman: Arkham video games, among many others. Hamill's dangerously cheerful Joker matched Conroy's sincere Batman step for step, and these examples listed are only a handful of the work the two did together.
There's no question that Conroy will be missed by both friends and fans. Hamill's sweet message to the late actor only reinforces how important Conroy's work as Batman was, as his impact on the franchise continues far past Batman: The Animated Series. Conroy will forever be ed around the world for his talent and his heart and will be missed by millions.
