In DC Comics’ futuristic world of Batman Beyond, Bruce Wayne created an incredibly powerful and high-tech batsuit that he ed on to his successor, Terry McGinnis, resulting in a totally different version of The Dark Knight that immediately became a hit with fans of the original Caped Crusader. In new concept art, Terry’s state-of-the-art batsuit gets a schematic-like illustration, revealing what’s under the hood of one of Batman’s most unique and iconic costume designs.

Recently shared to social media via Instagram, Huy Dinh (@wee_arts) is a prolific talent who specializes in creating unique pieces of artwork that celebrate classic superhero designs along with inventive redesigns that fans of these characters can get behind.

New Concept Art Shows off What’s Underneath Batman Beyond’s Iconic Suit

A costume that hasn’t changed its design much from its inception, this batsuit first premiered in 1999’s Batman Beyond worn by an older Bruce Wayne who was doing all he could to continue his nightly war on the superstitious and cowardly that plagued his city. Swearing off being Batman after he’s forced to threaten a criminal with a gun, it isn’t until years later that Terry McGinnis finds his way into the suit and puts it to good use as Gotham’s new protector, helped by a high-tech design complete with feet boosters, retractible glider wings, invisibility, and much more.

Giving Terry’s Batman a subtle redesign in the first post, Huy draws Terry with a holographic-esque bat symbol on his chest, subtle red accents spread across his arms, legs, and body, and a more textured costume material that makes this design feel real. Illustrating a cross-section of the suit in the next post, Huy splits Terry right down the middle to reveal a schematic of what lies underneath that’s full of wires, electronic components, and layers upon layers of integrated tech, with the final post animating both pieces together set to Batman Beyond’s nostalgia-inducing theme song.
