Warning! Spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #0 and Captain America #27
Captain America are dealing with very similar struggles in their respective universes. While Batman is a dark vigilante in the crime-ridden streets of Gotham, Captain America is a symbol of hope and freedom, fighting for what's right with a patriotic determination. However, they're both facing the same threat: a loss of trust and faith from the public, as well villains who want to take advantage of those struggles in some pretty destructive ways.
In recent issues from DC, Batman has done little to instill trust in the people of Gotham. Much of the devastatingthe Red Hulk). While Cap and his allies were eventually able to clear his name, anti-Captain America sentiments are likewise at an all-time high just like Batman.
The similarities don't end there. Both Batman and Captain America have their own respective foes who are looking to take advantage of this apparent weakness, attempting to exploit the public's lack of trust against them. For Batman, the Scarecrow has made a big return with an all-new look and mission in DC's Captain America #27 from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leonard Kirk.
It's certainly an equally dynamic and problematic situation that the Dark Knight and the Super Solider have found themselves in. What's also remarkable is that neither of them did anything worse than what they'd been doing for years as heroes. However, that's possibly where their problems began. The threats that Batman and Captain America face have only gotten bigger, more complex, and more dangerous over the years, which means that their current modes of operation clearly don't work as well as they used to and it's time to switch things up.
It seems as though both the Dark Knight and Super Solider are aware of this fact as well. Batman appears to be relying more on his allies as opposed to the insanely large arsenal of tech, weapons, and vehicles he had before Joker War, and Captain America has started to take steps to listen and be more attuned to the perspectives of all the American people, not just those in New York where he primarily operates. In any case, while both Batman and Captain America have uphill battles to face, here's hoping they'll find ways to adapt, overcome, and win the public's trust back in future issues from both Marvel and DC Comics.
