One Batman moment proves there's a member of the Bat Family he loves even more than Nightwing. Bruce Wayne has had many beloved sidekicks throughout the years, starting with Dick Grayson, the original Robin. Many additional wards and adopted children have expanded the family over time, including Damian Wayne, Batman's biological son.

Fighting alongside Batman has always been dangerous. Dick Grayson, who became anti-heroic Red Hood. Damian himself dies fighting the villainous Heretic, leading Bruce on an unimaginable quest to restore his son's life.

Batman Was Heartbroken Over Damian's Death

Batman Only Cares About Damian

In 2020's Batman/Superman Annual #1, written by Joshua Williamson, the possibility of Damian dying again highlights the true extent of Batman's love for him. In it, imps Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite disagree over who would win in a fight: Batman or Superman. To prove who would emerge victorious, they manipulate the heroes into fighting. Bat-Mite meddles with the fabric of space-time to make Superman's presence destroy reality.

While Superman lives, everyone in existence fades to dust – except for Batman. As the entire Bat Family disintegrates in front of him, Bruce rushes to Damian's side. It is worth noting that in the Annual, the imps' experiment includes a stipulation: neither Batman nor Superman can be made to act "out of character," meaning that whatever the distorted circumstances, Bruce Wayne's reaction is true to form.

Batman Did Everything To Bring Damian Back

Batman holds dead Damian Wayne

When Damian was killed by The Heretic, Batman went to absurd lengths trying to revive him. This included trying to force Jason into reliving his trauma so Batman could figure out how he came back to life. Batman also hunted down and dissected Frankenstein, wanting to learn how he functioned and what kept him alive. He even went so far as to fight Darkseid, taking his zealous attempt to resurrect his son to entirely new levels. As strong as his grief at the deaths, or near-deaths, of past sidekicks and allies may have been, nothing in Batman's history compares to the measures he undertakes to save his biological son.

There's no doubt that Batman loves each of his children dearly. As laconic and brooding as the character is portrayed as, it is also inherent in his character how important family is to him, whether biological or chosen. He will go to incredible lengths to protect any of them, to avenge them if necessary, as has been made clear countless times throughout the character's history and the history of the extended Bat Family. However, recent years have made it difficult to dispute: from Damian Wayne's death at the hands of the Heretic to the trials and tribulations of Batman/Superman Annual #1, Batman's love for his son is unparalleled.
