Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman / Fortnite: Zero Point #1!

Fortnite Crossover might be inundated with all of the mindless fighting and glorious chaos that people have come to expect and appreciate about the immensely popular video game, but the real highlight of the debut issue is the love connection Batman is able to form with Catwoman in the strange new world he finds himself, despite the overwhelming odds.

When some sort of wormhole transports Batman from Gotham into the Fortnite universe, Bruce Wayne soon discovers that he doesn't anything except how to fight and that he can't speak (because the characters can't talk in the game). This minor setback, of course, complicates things a bit for the confused vigilante hero as he attempts to get a handle of the situation in this new world, but his unfortunate predicament soon ends up proving how deeply in-tuned he is with Catwoman, another unwilling participant in the Fortnite brawl.

The moment he locks eyes with Catwoman, Batman instantly feels as though he should know her. Even more compelling is that he can read her facial expressions perfectly and seems to understand what she's feeling on a deep level, despite the game having erased all memories of her. Meanwhile, Catwoman's feelings for Batman seem to be so ingrained in her psyche that she instinctively intervenes in his fight with another character without her realizing why. Whether the actual highlight from this moment is the fact Catwoman's feelings transcend the rules of this universe or that Batman is able to extrapolate such a complex emotion just by the look on her face remains up to the reader. Regardless, it later becomes clear that, as they fight alongside each other for what feels like should be the first time, they have actually fought together before, for their movements are somehow perfectly synchronized.

Their feelings for each other culminate in a touching scene where they look upon each other lovingly for what they mistakenly believe to be the last time as Fortnite's Eye of the Storm closes in on them. Of course, the meteorological mishap is just part of the gameplay that restricts the play place, but they don't know that. Even though they believe they're about to die, they seem to find comfort in each other's eyes, grateful for this moment despite their impending doom. Only lovers would find solace in their final moments together.

Written by Christos Gage and conceptualized by Donald Mustard, Batman / Fortnite: Zero Point #1's purpose might be to capitalize on all of the elements of an Series like Batman / Catwoman might delve into the complications of a doomed relationship where both parties have different priorities and conflicting philosophies, but Batman / Fortnite: Zero Point explores the archetypal trope of love conquers all -- even the very rules of another universe.
