Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman #106
In the latest issue of DC Comics' Robin as the Dark Knight's new partner. Batman and his son Damian have had a major disconnect ever since the death of Alfred, and it finally came to head when Damian decided to leave the role of Damian behind, choosing to take a darker path on his own. In his absence, Batman has recently made amends with his old friend and fellow vigilante Ghost-Maker, who's agreed to stick around in Gotham and help Batman in his crusade against the city's criminal elements.
In previous issues of DC's Batman from writer James Tynion IV and Jorge Jimenez, the Dark Knight and Ghost-Maker were fairly opposed to one another. It was revealed that Joker War.
Now, Ghost-Maker has taken the place of Robin, ing the Dark Knight in patrolling Gotham's streets and helping him take down a cell of the newly risen Unsanity Collective. The recent attack on Arkham Asylum (as seen in Infinite Frontier #0) has driven Gotham to all new depths of fear, motivating more dangers and threats such as this new group to emerge, as well as propagating even more anti-vigilante sentiments among the the public. Regardless, Ghost-Maker has proven thus far to be an effective new partner, despite his inexperience with actually letting criminals live after they've been stopped.
Clearly, Batman and Ghost-Maker have a solid rapport with each other, and it must be a nice change of pace for the Dark Knight to actually have something positive going on. At least for now, Batman has a partner who's as effective and dependable as Robin was, though Ghost-Maker certainly seems to get along better with Batman. However, it doesn't seem as though Damian likely cares or feels slighted, as he has far bigger concerns. Damian's whereabouts are revealed in a backup story at the end of this issue, which sees the young Wayne returning to his mother Talia Al Ghul, seemingly desiring to resume his role within the League of Assassins as heir to the Demon Throne.
In any case, Batman and Ghost-Maker certainly make for an impressive and brand new Dynamic Duo, and it will be interesting to see how their restored relationship progresses in future issues. While he's certainly a little rough around the edges, Ghost-Maker is quite the capable partner in this latest issue of Batman from DC Comics, serving as a suitable replacement in the role that's typically been filled by the wayward Robin.
