Spoilers for Absolute Batman #4!
In DC Comics’ recently birthed Absolute Universe, Absolute Universe Batmobile, Batman has just debuted yet another new bat-themed vehicle, with this particular model acting as his very first bat-car in this alternate continuity, proving that Bruce Wayne can turn anything into a functional Batmobile.
A vehicle that’s as recognizable as Batman’s signature batarangs and countless batsuits, the Batmobile has come in all shapes and sizes over the years, with their looks ranging from something more tank-like and militaristic in nature to something sleeker and more bat-like in design to everything and anything in between.
ANGELES: I have to ask about the usage of the RC Roadster. Did you research this beforehand or is it just playing with toys at this point?
SNYDER: No, I had the idea for it because I was like, well… I thought Bruce really does need a Batmobile but what could he afford? And I was like, Toy Batmobile! I asked Nick–who mind you, actually loves RC cars as his sons both love racing–and he was like, well, if you loaded a hydraulic jack on one of them… you might be able to do this. And he started sending me car models. He wrote me the biggest, most expensive, best RC cars. And so he was the one that was the real expert on that. But it was one of my favorite scenes.
That’s like part of the skeleton key for if you ever get to write Batman, anyone reading this out there in the world. It’s like, he’s just a kid that has the worst thing in the world happen to him and then decides he’s going to take that trauma and use it as fuel to make the world better and stop this from happening again. And it’s this reason why it’s so much fun to see him be awesome and win.
Introducing a Batmobile outfitted from a mini RC Roadster in Absolute Batman #4, a recent interview with The Beat reveals that writer Scott Snyder wanted to give this version of Batman an inaugural Batmobile that he could easily afford, especially now that his character isn’t a playboy billionaire any longer.
Absolute Batman Turned an RC Roadster Into a Miniaturized Version of the Batmobile
Batman Debuted This Batmobile in Absolute Batman #4 - 2025 (Scott Snyder and Gabriel Hernández Walta)
Recounting the early days of Absolute Batman’s career before he settled on becoming the powerlifting, bat-hammer-wielding superhero he is now, this issue sees Bruce fine-tuning what works and what doesn’t in his budding war on crime. Explaining how Batman is “just a kid that has the worst thing in the world happen to him and then decides he’s going to take that trauma and use it as fuel to make the world better,” Snyder gives Absolute Batman a reason for why this cheap yet effective RC Batmobile makes a whole lot of sense for this low-tech but deeply determined Batman.

Arkhamverse's Deadly Batmobile Makes Its Explosive Debut in Official Continuity
Batman's most dangerous and most controversial Batmobile - straight from the Arkham games - finally debuts in official DC Comics continuity!
An inventive, intuitive, and incredibly cost-efficient Batmobile — Batman paid “under a grand” for it — this bat-car was made from “A bottle jack. An RC Roadster loaded with a 4600KV” and “Some black paint,” and in its first appearance, proves its worth as a miniaturized version of a vehicle that’s always equipped for nearly anything. Not only does this Batmobile help fans realize Batman can do his job in ways that aren’t tied to spending millions on research and development, but Snyder continues to paint this over-the-top Dark Knight as a resourceful hero, despite his clear differences from DC's "primary" Batman.
Batman’s New Batmobile Is a More Affordable Option for This Fledgling Hero
Technically the second Batmobile in Absolute Batman’s ever-growing grassroots arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, Bruce left fans in a pleasant state of shock after he unleashed his titanically-proportioned construction rig Batmobile in Absolute Batman #2, showing the breadth of Bruce’s resourcefulness as an ordinary Gothamite-turned-vigilante and proving that he deserves to be DC's top hero no matter what part of the multiverse he’s in. Absolute Batman has just started what’s sure to be a wild ride of a series, and if this version of Batman is anything like his main comic continuity counterpart, two Batmobiles will never be enough.
Absolute Batman #4 is available from DC Comics.
