DC Comics has revealed who will be taking over the ongoing Batman series following James Tynion IV's adventures, as Joshua Williamson and Jorge Molina were just announced as the new creative team alongside colorist Tomeu Morey. In a preview for what's next to come in the series, Williamson teased a new Batsuit, a new villain named Abyss, and offered some exciting hints on where Batman's adventures could go.

Earlier this month, James Tynion IV shocked the comic book world when he announced he's leaving DC Comics Batman following the conclusion of his and Jimenez's Fear State arc - and now DC has revealed Williamson and Molina will guide the next chapter of Batman, starting with issue #118.

Williamson - who's tackled some of DC's biggest projects in the last couple of years, Infinite Frontier - revealed his and Molina's "Abyss" arc will feature Batman leaving Gotham. But, before departing, he'll encounter a new villain named Abyss. Williamson made sure to stress while the story is a brand-new arc for Batman, it will continue the plans that other Bat-Family books have established. So, for those nervous about Batman suddenly getting an overhaul storywise, Williamson's words should offer some reassurance. Next, Williamson shared a first look at Batman #118, which features the Dark Knight in a new Batsuit that combines his iconic Batman Incorporated and JLA ensembles.

Molina's cover for Batman #119 was also shared, as Batman's new suit shines in a battle against the new villain, Abyss. The scythe-wielding villain has a black costume with a futuristic helmet that has bright Xs as eyes. Abyss' powers or real identity hasn't been revealed, but as far as first impressions go, they seem to be a menacing new threat for Batman.

DC Comics hasn't revealed how long Williamson, Molina, and Morey's run on Batman will last. It could be a handful of issues that end with Batman leaving Gotham or his departure into an entirely new arc altogether. Regardless, there's plenty of reasons to be excited for Batman's adventures as DC Comics has made a fine choice to follow Tynion IV and Jimenez's run. The new era of the Dark Knight begins when Batman #118 arrives in comic book stores in December.
