DC's Detective Comics will soon release issue #1027, which will celebrate the Joker War tie-in from writer Mariko Tamaki with art by Dan Mora, the other story is sure to generate a lot of excitement as well. Detective Comics #1027 will be sending Batman back in time to 1939, the year of its first issue, and the first appearance of the Batman. Read on to learn more.
According to DC Comics, the story will be titled, "Generations: Fractured", written by Dan Jurgens along with art by Kevin Nowlan. In the story, Batman will reportedly be attempting to stop a group of criminals led by Calendar Man from robbing a museum. However, during the fighting, an unknown light will flash and before Batman can react, he's traveling back in time to 1939. As he looks at his surroundings, all of Gotham is older and different, including himself, looking every bit like he does in his first appearance in the debut issue of Detective Comics, long ears and all.
The art in the preview pages from Jurgens and Mora shows that while Batman is traveling back in time, his costume changes, reverting back to the typical costume he wore in that era until finally landing with his first Batsuit from 1939. Could this mean that 1939 will only be Batman's first stop and that he will go forwards in time, heading back towards the present while visiting key eras of the Batman mythos and timeline along the way? A Batman fan can only hope. However, even if he does stay within the series' first year, it will still no doubt be entertaining and exciting for fans to see how the Dark Knight reacts to the very first era and time period in which he was created in. The full announcement from DC goes on to say that more stories will be featured alongside the two they've just revealed, including some big-time creators such as Greg Rucka/Eduardo Risso, Grant Morrison/Chris Burnham, James Tynion IV/Riley Rossmo, Tom King/Walter Simonson, Scott Snyder/Ivan Reis, Kelly Sue DeConnick with John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson, Marv Wolfman/Emanuela Lupacchino/Bill Sienkiewicz, Brian Michael Bendis/David Marquez and apparently even more beyond that. Without question, Detective Comics #1027 is shaping up to be a huge landmark issue and a must-have for Batman fans. Detective Comics #1027 comes to comic book stores and digital markets on Tuesday, September 15th.
