This fall, Marvel and DC Comics are teaming up for a crossover event that no one saw coming, giving fans not just one, but two epic Deadpool team-ups. As someone who loves both the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth, there are plenty of reasons to be excited. But there’s one reason in particular that has me more hyped than anything else. All I can do now is hope Marvel pulls it off and doesn’t leave me disappointed.
While details about the Deadpool x Batman team-up remain limited, the comic publishers have confirmed that Marvel’s Deadpool/Batman #1 will release on September 17, 2025, with Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo leading the creative team. In turn, DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1 is set to debut sometime in November, with Grant Morrison and Dan Mora at the helm.
These two crossover one-shots are part of a larger collaborative initiative between DC Comics and Marvel, which the publishers have teased as a crossover event unlike anything the comic book industry has seen before. Clearly, there are exciting things ahead for both Marvel and DC fans.
Batman & Deadpool’s Crossover Needs to Spotlight the One Awesome Trait They Share
Both Heroes Were Originally Defined by Gadgets, But Only One Still Uses Them
As of May 29, 2025, there isn’t much known about the crossover beyond the two stunning covers that have been released, the confirmed creative teams, and the synopsis for Deadpool/Batman #1: “It’s the crossover you never expected but always wanted! Deadpool and Batman cross swords and batarangs as Marvel and DC unite for the first time in decades! Wade Wilson has been hired for a job in Gotham City, but will the World’s Greatest Detective help him or destroy him?” One thing I expect, though, is for both publishers to bring out the very best in each character. And that includes highlighting one underrated trait the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth surprisingly share: their gadgets.
...Batman’s inquisitive mind would likely be intrigued by Deadpool’s absurd, over-the-top tech, while Wade would thrive on the attention...
While most fans agree that Batman’s array of bat-themed gadgets is a core part of his identity, many may not realize that Deadpool was once known for his own arsenal of inventive and chaotic gear. Though this aspect doesn’t show up much in modern comics, Wade Wilson used to be a full-on gadget guy, equipped with a personal teleporter, a holographic image inducer, and more. Since Marvel has largely let this part of Deadpool fade in recent years, it’s unclear whether the crossover will lean into that side of his character. But I’m really hoping it does, because seeing these two gadget masters go head-to-head would be a highlight worth waiting for.
Deadpool and Batman’s Gadget Rivalry Could Be the Highlight of Their Crossover
Why Honoring Wade Wilson’s Tech History Would Make the Team-Up Even Better
I’m expecting the two crossovers to be jam-packed with Deadpool’s signature humor, which will naturally create an exceptionally entertaining dynamic between the Merc with a Mouth and the typically stoic, brooding Dark Knight. One of the main reasons I’m so invested in this crossover is my hope that Marvel and DC will honor Deadpool’s gadget-heavy history. Including this aspect of his character would give the creative teams plenty of comedic material to play with and could lead to some truly memorable interactions. After all, watching Batman face off with someone who might actually have a more extensive gadget collection could add a fun, competitive twist to their partnership.
For instance, it would be hilarious to see Batman grappling to the next rooftop, only to find Deadpool already there waiting, making a snarky comment about Bruce’s grappling gun while bragging about how much more efficient his personal teleporter is. Watching Deadpool casually outdo each of Batman’s gadgets with one of his own would be both epic and hilarious. The possibilities for humor are endless. At the same time, the duo’s shared affinity for high-tech tools could serve a purpose beyond just comedy.

Deadpool's Forgotten Gadget Returns to Give Him New Powers
In an attempt to get back onto X-Force and be welcomed by the mutant nation Krakoa, Deadpool's upgraded some old tech he hasn't used in quite a while.
There’s no denying that Batman and Deadpool are nearly complete opposites in personality and approach. That’s why their mutual love for gadgets could be the unexpected common ground that connects them. Batman’s inquisitive mind would likely be intrigued by Deadpool’s absurd, over-the-top tech, while Wade would thrive on the attention and appreciation his gadgets finally receive. So while it may be a niche request, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Marvel and DC deliver some solid gadget-loving content in these Batman and Deadpool crossovers.
