Warning! Spoilers ahead for Empyre #3
Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the invading alien forces and the heroes aiding the powerful African nation are different, there's more than one comparison to be made. However, the similarities aren't a bad thing or feel like a retread. Rather, they help capture the spirit and intensity that comes when Wakanda gets attacked, it's quite epic and entertaining.
In the MCU, Black Panther and his army as they sought to protect him. On the field of battle, the Avengers and Wakandans watched as the outriders clawed their way through the force field that had been set up, ignoring the pain it was causing. As they readied for war, the Wakandans took up their traditional war cry: "Yibambe". In the Xhosa language, "Yibambe" means "Hold fast or firm", an apt war cry given the circumstances.
The same thing happens in this new Marvel Comics Battle of Wakanda, and he tells her what he was thinking it meant.
It should also be noted that just as Thanos wanted something within Wakanda, the Cotati want something as well: the Vibranium-enriched soil found in the heart of Wakada at the base of the Great Mound, where their largest deposit of the rare metal sits. If the Cotati can plant one of their Death Blossoms in the rare soil, it will all be over and their ability to eliminate all animal life will be assured, making this comics' Battle of Wakanda just as dire and high stakes as its' MCU counterpart.
The battle's not over yet, however, so perhaps the comics' version will see the heroes victorious and win the day, as opposed to the MCU version where Thanos won, gaining all the Infinity Stones. Fans will get the answer soon when Empyre #4 releases next week.
