A player recently launched a Change.org petition to push for Steam issued Battlefield 2042 refunds back in January, despite the period falling far outside of the platform's usual 14-day window for reimbursement.

Steam seemingly relaxed its standard refund policy due to the ongoing buggy state of the game. Despite developer DICE's efforts to address all of Battlefield 2042's various shortcomings, the military shooter has been plagued with glitches since its launch late last fall. Things were so dour early on, in fact, that the newest Battlefield entry landed a spot on Steam's all-time worst reviewed games list, a feat not expected of the historically beloved first-person shooter franchise. It could take some time before things drastically improve across the board, evidenced by DICE's decision to delay Battlefield 2042 Season 1 in an effort to focus on tackling game fixes.

As issues still plaguing Battlefield 2042, then tells prospective ers that g the petition could get them one step closer to receiving a refund. Allegedly, a class-action lawyer may take a closer look at a potential "case against EA" if the Change.org page garners 50,000 signatures.

Of course, the Change.org petition leaves one question dangling in the wind: will this actually make a difference to Battlefield 2042 in the long run? If past is prologue, then precedent suggests the answer will likely be a no. Sony, for one, doesn't typically like to budge on its refund policy, with rare exceptions seen in the case of Cyberpunk 2077 refunds.

The class-action lawsuit claims against Battlefield 2042 mentioned in the petition could prove interesting, however, especially since such endeavors can go in any one direction. For example, No Man's Sky creator Hello Games was cleared of false advertising allegations in November 2016. CD Projekt Red, on the other hand, settled with investors who accused the company of misleading them about Cyberpunk 2077's performance capabilities ahead of launch. If EA is placed in a similar position by its customers, it seems difficult to discern where exactly the chips may fall. For now, the Battlefield 2042 refund petition continues to grow in numbers.
