It is no surprise that the Battlefield franchise has been struggling to resonate with fans as of late, but the developers are holding the largest playtest the franchise has seen to date for Battlefield 6 to hopefully bring back the player base. The launch of Battlefield 5 was disastrous for both EA and Dice, as not only was the marketing very lackluster, but fans were less than thrilled with the story being historically inaccurate.
According to Insider Gaming, Battlefield 6 playtests are gearing up to begin and will include a free-to-play battle royale mode. The goal for the developers is to test the title as thoroughly as possible and get player to avoid yet another catastrophic launch.
Battlefield Devs Don't Want History To Repeat Itself
Two Of Their Major Titles Resulted In Less Than Favorable Results
Not only was Battlefield 5 a huge miss for EA and DICE, but Battlefield 2042 had its fair share of issues at launch. Filled with bugs, launching errors, and players being kicked back into the lobby for seemingly no reason, the title ended up forcing several fans of the franchise to turn their backs on the games entirely. EA had claimed that they were going to ensure that this "unacceptable" launch never happened again, but sadly that ended up not being the case.

Battlefield 6 Reportedly Getting "Biggest Playtest Ever" To Avoid 2042's Horrific Launch
A large-scale playtest is currently happening for Battlefield 6, in attempts to ensure a smoother launch for the next game than previous titles.
Four studios are said to be working on Battlefield 6 currently, according to Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, including DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect. The article also notes that there will be more playtests this time around to ensure that expectations are met well before the game goes live.
There Should Be More Battlefield 6 Announcements In The Coming Months
Very Little Is Known About Battlefield 6 At This Time
There has been little information released on the state of Battlefield 6, its release date, or gameplay features. Though the release date is set for some time in 2025, there is very little known about what to expect from the title at the time of writing. Fans of the franchise have already taken to Reddit to discuss their thoughts and feelings on the playtesting. newSillssa states, "Playtests are only one step of the process, the other is to actually be willing to sacrifice huge amounts of time and effort because you discovered that something you made isnt working." Commenter RogueLightMyFire responded with, "They built the whole game around those "heroes", so rather than take the time and money to fix it, they just ignored the entirely."
Only time will tell whether Battlefield 6 will be successful at launch or if it is simply another disaster waiting to happen, and hopefully, this time around, the developers will listen to the and implement changes based on the fans' desires.
