TurtleMe, the creator of The Beginning After the End, recently broke the silence by sharing a post on the official novel’s subreddit where he commented on the backlash to the anime adaptation. According to TurtleMe, although he is thankful for the massive response from fans who showed their love for the series, the anime adaptation has been a learning experience for him, and, despite public opinion about the project, he believes that everyone involved, from Tapas to Studio A-Cat and Crunchyroll, was working for the sake of the series.

With each iteration of TBATE, where more and more people are involved, comes its own unique set of challenges and intricacies. The anime adaptation has been a huge learning experience, collaborating in an industry with so many different people across Tapas, Studio A-Cat, and Crunchyroll, who all bring their own unique vision of what TBATE the anime could be. At the end of the day, there will always be creative differences in the room, but I really do believe that everyone is coming at it with their best effort and intentions.

TurtleMe recently revealed in an interview that one of the reasons why he chose Studio A-Cat to animate The Beginning After the End was because they knew and were ionate about the project. With TurtleMe himself being allowed to give his insight into the adaptation, proved as he is credited on the anime’s official website as story supervisor. However, in his statement, TurtleMe shares that he learned that there are always creative differences and there are multiple factors involved in the creation of an anime.

I learned in the anime industry, it’s very rare for the creator to have a say in deciding the ins and outs when it comes to the inception of an anime. This was a growing point for me since I was so used to having control over everything regarding The Beginning After the End. After all, for the novel I am the one writing it. For the comic, I oversee every single round. When TBATE was optioned for an anime, I realized there were millions of moving parts before production could even begin. Oftentimes the best products are an amalgamation of ion, hard work, and luck from a strong and dedicated team.

This highlights the fact that even if the author might share his opinion about the direction the story should take in the adaptation, the technical aspects escape from their control and rather rely on aspects like budget, the team resources, and schedule set by the series’ production committee.

TurtleMe Asks for Respect and From the Fans

The Beginning After the End fans have been criticizing Studio A-Cat and demanding the series be canceled and taken up by another animation studio. However, the author, TurtleMe, has asked the fans for understanding and respect for those involved in the project, saying he doesn’t wish for it to be a do-over but to it to the end.

But as with anything you love–whether it’s your pet, your story, or even your child–when faced with challenges, you don’t wish for it to be gone and have a do-over. You it through difficult times and push it up so that it can become something that you can cherish because of all of the trials and tribulations you’ve overcome together.

Whatever feelings you have for the anime, I am thankful for all of the people behind the scenes who have given me this opportunity, and I’m thankful for all of you for helping make this happen in the first place. You’ve stuck through TBATE at its highs and lows, and so I ask for your now. Please continue being the rock that gave TBATE the time and chance to be where it is today. I’m not asking you to like something you don’t, but please be respectful and set an example in the vast ocean that is the internet.

The Beginning after the End’ animation sparked controversy because of its lack of character movement and use of transitions, which made viewers compare it to a slideshow presentation. Moreover, the art style with simple shading and character design made fans claim the series to be even worse than Blue Lock season 2, which at least had a more consistent art style despite the lack of fluid animation during the first part of the series.

However, like what happened with Tower of God and other series like Uzumaki, these production issues are often caused when animators have a tight schedule, as they have to cut frames and simplify movement to have fewer corrections and meet deadlines set by the anime committees. Nevertheless, while TurtleMe's statement doesn’t give optimism for viewers to see improved animation for the rest of the season, as the story has been faithfully adapted so far, fans should keep ing the series in hopes of seeing if the best parts of The Beginning After the End will be satisfyingly covered in the future.
