Below Deck Down Under season 3 just began. When the former was still on the air, though, Captain Glenn Shephard gave very strict alcohol guidelines for one particular night out. Unfortunately, Gary, along with other crew , abused the situation and ended up having 10 drinks. Captain Glenn was furious, but he didn't fire Gary.
Below Deck Down Under's Captain Jason Chambers revealed how he would've handled Gary King's alcohol consumption on Sailing Yacht if he had been the captain instead of Glenn Shephard.
While speaking to EW, Captain Jason spoke up about Gary drinking too much on Sailing Yacht and how the captain ended up dealing with the situation. He said that Captain Glenn did "exactly what I would do. These are the foundations we work in. Be adults above that and don't break the rules." Jason was disgusted by Gary's "childish" behavior after being reprimanded by the captain. "Glenn had given him ample opportunity to be an adult, and Gary actually blew that," Jason itted, adding that if he had been the Sailing Yacht captain, Gary "probably wouldn't have a job."
The main reason Captain Jason talked to EW was to give an update on the changes that have been implemented after the sexual assault accusations against Luke Jones last season. According to Jason, producers have stepped up their responsibilities to monitor how much everyone's drinking. As a result, "there was a massive drop in alcohol intake." The Bravo star wanted to make it clear, though, that this doesn't mean Down Under has become boring. "Crew still actually dropped their guard a little bit," he claimed. "However, they didn't get to the point that they couldn't get onto the boat properly."
What Captain Jason Firing Gary King Would’ve Meant For Below Deck
Gary's Termination Would've Been One Of The Biggest Below Deck Firings
Captain Jason itted that Captain Glenn did the right thing by reprimanding Gary. However, the Sailing Yacht captain didn't go as far as to fire the first officer, which probably would've been the right thing to do. If Jason had been on Sailing Yacht and fired Gary, that would've been one of the biggest firings in the history of Below Deck. Glenn has been accused of being too soft in the face of insubordination. Jason, while a very likable man who wants everyone to get along, wouldn't have been afraid to put Gary in his place in a way that Glenn didn't do.

As Gary looks to possibly become a captain someday, there's been a ton of speculation over whether he even deserves that kind of promotion to begin with. He hasn't always been able to get his team to respect him, his judgment has been questioned numerous times, and he's just too immature to be handed control of the helm. The drinking incident alone proved he doesn't have what it takes.
Our Take On Captain Jason Wanting To Fire Gary Even Though Glenn Didn’t
Is Jason A Strong Captain Than Glenn?
Captain Jason's ission that he would've fired Gary, even though Glenn didn't, proves that he probably should have been the captain on Sailing Yacht instead of Glenn. Previews for Below Deck Down Under have teased that Jason isn't afraid to fire his crew. While it's very unlikely that Gary will return to the Below Deck franchise due to the accusations against him, if he were to return, maybe Bravo should think about pairing up Jason and Gary to see if that captain can finally put the first officer in his place.
Below Deck Down Under airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.
