Below Deck Down Under season 3, and it wasn't surprising when he chose to leave.

Chef Tzarina is having a rough time thus far in the latest charter season set in the Seychelles. She's rooming with Chief Stew Lara Rigby, with whom she has a contentious professional relationship, though they seem to enjoy each other on a personal level. While Anthony's departure should have alleviated some of Chef Tzarina's stress, she was unprepared to serve charter guests on her own. On top of everything else, Bosun Wihan Du Toit's kiss during Truth or Dare meant nothing, evidenced by his date with Stew Marina Marcondes de Barros.

Anthony Was Terrible Casting

He Was Too Controlling To Be A Sous Chef

The inclusion of Chef Anthony in Below Deck Down Under season 3 proved to be a misstep, primarily due to his unprofessional conduct and inability to collaborate effectively. However, that doesn't mean the franchise should shy away from the practice in the future; he was simply an egotistical and proud Chef who was unsuited to the job. From the outset, Anthony exhibited a dismissive attitude towards Chef Tzarina.

When Tzarina asked about his strengths and weaknesses, Anthony was thrown off, saying he didn't have any weaknesses. He only focused on his strengths and even chastised Chef Tzarina for making him go through a second interview process. She tried to explain that it was meant to be a collaborative discussion, but Anthony had already decided that he hated Chef Tzarina.

Anthony's negative demeanor further strained the galley environment as the charter season unfolded. He loved criticizing Chef Tzarina's organizational methods, referring to her kitchen as chaotic and messy. While some of his comments may have been warranted, it wasn't his place to complain about her or purposefully undermine his Head Chef. It was clear that Anthony thought he could do Chef Tzarina's job better than her.

Anthony decided to jump ship and secured a new job as a Head Chef aboard another unknown vessel. While he told Chef Tzarina he could stay for another charter, Captain Jason Chambers wanted him out and fired Anthony on the spot. Chef Tzarina was left to manage without a Sous Chef, panicking as the last charter unfolded.

The Head Chefs Still Need Help In The Galley

Chef Tzarina Was Spiraling This Week

Chef Tzarina was spiraling after Anthony's departure this week, evidenced by her rant in the latest episode of Below Deck Down Under. She was stressed about preparing crew food, and Captain Jason tried to ease her workload by suggesting a brunch. Chef Tzarina went on a tirade, clearly irritating Captain Jason, who was trying to help her. "Things are getting heated," a Reel posted by the Bravo Instagram page teased, featuring Chef Tzarina's rant.

Fans seem relatively unsympathetic to Chef Tzarina in the comments. "She started off bad…saying the Su chef was just there to wash dishes and organize the cabinets," wrote one follower, while another said, "Sous chef was completely unmanageable and thought she and her cooking were beneath him. He had to go. She’s also emotionally fraught." One comment seemed to sum up Chef Tzarina's woes and the outcome of her actions:

"Someone else checked-in on Tzarina and asked her a question, and she provided an answer, an explanation (not like others who roam the yacht venting to anyone who will listen). And the way he spoke to her wasn't particularly nice, quite petty, condescending and threatening - he was reacting to a conversation he was not involved in.

If a solution doesn't suit, then it isn't reasonable is it? This should have been a further conversation."

Nevertheless, it seems like the Chefs on Below Deck are usually struggling, and it's not fair they don't have their team. Anthony wasn't the right choice, but setting expectations for Sous Chefs should help solve the problem. Captain Jason should try and find a replacement for him to help out Chef Tzarina.

The Below Deck Franchise Should Continue To Include Sous Chefs

The Chefs Need More Help

The Below Deck franchise should continue to include Sous Chefs. The issues on Below Deck Down Under stemmed from unclear expectations, big egos, and differing styles in the kitchen. Anthony thought he would take on a larger role in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Chef Tzarina had a different idea of what she needed to execute proper service. Next time, the Head Chef should be part of the hiring process. Anthony wasn't a good fit for Below Deck Down Under.

Below Deck Down Under airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo and streams the next day on Peacock.
