Captain Glenn Shephard, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher, and Deckhand Chase Lemacks. The four are ed by two new Stewardesses in the franchise, Diana Cruz and Danni Warren, Deckhand Keith Allen, Engineer David Morosi, and Chef Cloyce Martin.
In season 5, one person has already been fired by Captain Glenn at the behest of Gary. Deckhand Emma Crouch was let go for under performing, and Chase was her replacement. Currently, there are four charters left in the season, and the season in of service and guest satisfaction has been quality. There have been several dramatic moments between cast when it's come to boatmances, the boat being disrespected, and accidents happening, all of which Gary has had a hand in. Gary has been drinking throughout the season so far, but has stated he's turning over a new leaf.
Gary's BDSY Journey
Gary Has Been Mired In Controversy
Bravolebrity Gary has been the center of most of the contention and drama during his time in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht spinoff. Gary is known to be a playboy, womanizer, and an overall irresponsible person. A lot of his behavior and actions are self-serving, and he has demonstrated that he has no problem disrespecting his crewmates and the boat and has shown little interest in changing his reputation.
Gary has been involved in several boatmances every season he's been a part of, and they have all been messy. As for his job, Gary started out as Bosun, and has earned the credentials and experience necessary to become First Officer, which he's been the last two seasons. He has mentioned his ambition to be a captain one day, as he thinks of himself as a strong leader. His criticisms from those working under him have been that he is an inefficient leader who showcases unprofessionalism and a lack of ability.
Just in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, drunken Gary threw a lollypop at Davide, which caused a cut to his face which bled all over the guest couch. Gary made no effort to clean it up, and when Captain Glenn discovered the stain the following morning and confronted the crew, Gary took no responsibility, further proving his negative traits. Gary has had ongoing tension with several current and former cast over the years, but has kept a very friendly relationship with Captain Glenn, who sings Gary's praises.
Off camera, Gary was accused of sexual misconduct by a former Below Deck makeup artist in Summer 2022 when BDSY season 2 was being filmed.
She alleged that a drunken Gary tried to prevent her from leaving his hotel room, and grabbed her inappropriately.
Bravo acknowledged the claims and said they investigated and took action. Gary was uninvited to BravoCon 2023 as a result, but has obviously gone on to continue in the franchise.
Gary itted To Having A Drinking Problem
He Believes Alcohol Controls His Life
After the blood on the couch incident, Gary still drank during the crew day off. However, upon completion of the following charter, Gary opted not to drink champagne with rest of the crew, and told Daisy he planned not to drink the rest of the season.
"Every time I drink I seem to offend people, and that's just not what I want to do. I think I am very different when I drink, and I don't think alcohol is my friend. I do it as an escape, I guess. Maybe I do it because everyone else is drinking and I don't want to feel left out."
Daisy relayed during an interview that she had little faith that Gary could make it even one free night without drinking and didn't think his resolve would last long.
Upon further reflection, Gary stated, "I need to take some time off and reflect where I want to move forward with my life, and whether I'm going to let alcohol control my life like it has been for the last 14 years."
Over the years Gary has been on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, he has shown that he is a menace when he drinks. He disregards other people's feelings, is shamelessly flirtatious, and overall a sloppy drunk. Drinking is affecting all aspects of Gary's life, and it has not been a good look for him, but he seems to finally be addressing it.
Is Gary Still Drinking?
He's Painting A Picture On Instagram
Gary is active on Instagram, where he has recently been updating fans on his new endeavor. He is doing a boat crossing from South Africa to Spain, and has been vlogging about the journey. In the videos, Gary is focusing on showing his coffee drinking, wholesome recreation, and his love of being on the ocean and on a yacht. Gary seems to be coinciding his revelation to stop drinking with projecting himself in a different light.
At this time, it's unclear if Gary has continued being sober, but he's painting the picture like he is.

What Is Gary's BDSY Future If He Keeps Drinking?
Below Deck Is Controlling Gary's Narrative
Since it's become apparent that Gary can do no wrong in Bravo's eyes and that his narrative can be switched by producers to a more positive one, whether Gary is drinking or not, he will most likely still be a part of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht. If Gary wants to take on the role as a captain, his drinking will greatly impede his ability to carry out the job and be respected. But if he's sober, Gary could go on to be a Below Deck franchise captain, since he has showcased that he makes good TV through his controversial status and can carry out his job in some capacity.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
