30 Brothers (2024)

A Reformed Criminal Is Pulled Back Into One Last Score By His Brother

Brothers is a comedy road trip movie about a reformed criminal named Moke (Josh Brolin) who is pulled back into the life of crime by his brother Jady (Peter Dinklage) for the possibly score of a lifetime. Part of the comedy in this Amazon Prime Video film is the mismatched twin brothers, with Brolin (Avengers: Endgame) paired up with Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and it being Dinklage who is the bad influence in the situation. However, the actors' talents make this a movie worth checking out.

While there are many jokes about the twin brothers, similar to the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito movie Twins, the real selling point of this film is the fact that Dinklage and Brolin actually feel like they are brothers, and their chemistry makes the film (with "one last score") a breezy watch. Add in great ing performances from M. Emmet Walsh, Glenn Close, and Marisa Tomei, and this is a film that is surprisingly better than many critics might have suggested.

29 Ricky Stanicky (2024)

John Cena Plays A Made-Up Friend

Ricky Stanicky is a movie that plays off the premise of men lying to their significant others and then having to go to the extreme to cover up those lies. It is not the best premise, but what makes this movie work so well is the performance of John Cena. The plot sees Zac Efron lead the cast as a guy who has created a made-up friend for his group so they can have excuses to take breaks from their relationships to get out of obligations they don't want to be involved with. However, they soon have to prove their friend is real.

Even the bad reviews can't help but praise Cena's go-for-broke performance as Ricky Stanicky.

That is where John Cena comes in, as he plays the impersonator Rock-Hard Rod, who the guys pay to pretend he is the fake friend, Ricky Stanicky. What they don't expect is for Rod to integrate themselves into their lives and go full-on method acting, as Ricky does every chance he gets. The movie received mixed to negative reviews, but even the bad reviews can't help but praise Cena's go-for-broke performance as Ricky Stanicky, pointing out that he steals every scene in which he appears.

28 Picture This (2025)

A Woman's Family Tries To Force Her To Find A Husband

Picture This dropped on Prime Video in 2025 and features Bridgerton star Simone Ashley as Pia, a photographer who is about to turn 30. This isn't a problem for her, as she is happy with her business and life. However, when her younger sister Sonal gets engaged, her mother Laxmi begins to worry and wants to find a way to get Pia into a relationship and married as soon as possible, even if Pia has no desire to settle down and get married. Her family then sets her up on several blind dates, much to her chagrin.

It is a typical rom-com setup, but what carries this is Ashley's performance. In their review for Screen Rant, Rachel Labonte wrote, "Ashley balances her character's many layers with ease, turning her into someone we can all relate to in our own way." It should be noted that this is a light rom-com and is not as concerned with romance as it is about Pia's journey through this time of her life.

27 You're Cordially Invited (2025)

A Father Battles A Wedding Planner Who Double-Booked His Daughter's Wedding

Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon teamed up for a comedy movie that premiered on Amazon Prime Video in January 2025. In the film, Ferrell is a father whose daughter's dream wedding was ruined when a venue accidentally double booked for a second wedding. Not willing to let it slide, Ferrell's Jim goes to battle against the wedding planner for the second wedding, Margot (Reese Witherspoon), while both brides begin to realize their weddings might end up going up in flames when all is said and done.

It is interesting to see comedy heavyweight Ferrell heading to a streaming location for his new movie, although Witherspoon has been focusing more on television over the years anyway. Early reviews were not all positive, as critics have said that Nicholas Stoller's (Neighbors, Bros) latest comedy film lacked the "comic inspiration" of his earlier movies or those by Ferrell and Witherspoon (via THR). However, it is always fun to see Ferrell and Witherspoon back in a comedy, so it is at least worth a look.

26 Don’t Make Me Go (2022)

A Single Father Takes His Daughter On A Road Trip After Learning He Is Dying

Road trip adventures have made for some great entries in the comedy genre, and Don’t Make Me Go may be an undiscovered treasure of the subgenre. John Cho stars as a man named Max who discovers that he has a terminal illness and sets out on a road trip with his reluctant daughter (Mia Isaac) to reunite her with her estranged mother. Along the way, he wants to help teach his daughter what he knows about life before he is gone.

Critics praised both Cho and Mia Isaac, and said their chemistry is enough to help overcome a very familiar movie trope.

As the premise suggests, there is a lot of sadness mixed in with the humor, but there are a lot of laughs coming from the father’s attempts to teach his daughter life lessons along the way. Cho and Isaac give great performances that elevate the story. Critics praised both Cho and Mia Isaac, and said their chemistry is enough to help overcome a very familiar movie trope. However, be prepared that this film does not have a happy ending, and many critics have derided its twist.

25 My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022)

A Teenager Tries To Save Her Friend From A Demon

The blend of horror and comedy is often a tricky combination to pull off effectively. However, one underrated entry in the genre is My Best Friend’s Exorcism. Based on the novel of the same name by Grady Hendrix, the wacky supernatural story is set in the 1980s and follows two high school girls whose friendship is put to the test when one of them is possessed by a demon after coming across a haunted cabin in the woods.

The movie has a lot of fun with the tropes of the genre as well as the 80s setting. But the real heart of the film is the story of friendship, which is done well by some talented young actors. While reviews weren't great, that is normal for teen horror movies like this one. Bell and Platt strike a nice balance between being self-centered and obnoxious leads while still being fun, although mostly unlikable, which is a trait that many actors have in the film.

The result is a solid comedy, further elevated by a strong ensemble that includes Oscar-winner Allison Janney. The film is not a laugh-out-loud comedy, though, as the estranged and unlikable characters never seem to try to get along. However, the plan backfires when he meets someone new and finds that breaking up with his fake boyfriend is harder to do, all while still trying to keep his abusive ex at bay.

The movie leans into the silly concept but keeps itself from falling too deep thanks to a funny script and a solid cast of young stars, including Cole Sprouse, Sarah Hyland, and Keiynan Lonsdale in the lead roles. Critics praised the film's handling of its central queer romance, allowing it to play out like a basic rom-com without trying to add too much to push it into something it's not.

While the movie falls short of being as funny as Tropic Thunder with a similar premise, Die Hart benefits from Hart's committed performance as well as a star-studded ing cast that includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett, and John Travolta. There have been several films with movie stars playing fictionalized versions of themselves, from Nicolas Cage and Jean-Claude Van Damme to Bruce Campbell and Hart's work stands up well with those, even earning seven Primetime Emmy nominations.

21 Shotgun Wedding (2022)

An Island Wedding Turns Into A Hostage Situation

The return of Jennifer Lopez to the rom-com genre is a welcome sight for many fans, even if Shotgun Wedding isn't on par with some of her other entries into the genre. Lopez stars alongside Josh Duhamel as a couple who gathers their respective families for their destination wedding, only for the guests to be taken hostage, leaving the bride and groom to save the day. Lopez is in excellent form in both the action role and the goofy comedic aspects.

However, Shotgun Wedding's Jennifer Coolidge steals the show with another comedic gem of a performance. Critics mostly gave the Amazon Prime Video comedy mixed to negative reviews. However, some critics still raised it as "escapism" fun for fans of rom-coms, and reveal that it is a lot of fun for anyone not looking at anything more than just an enjoyably fun movie experience.
