Chris Patton is a dub voice actor in over 100 shows, 23 movies, and 12 video games. Dubbing is when the actor voices over the lead or ing characters so that the film, show, or game can be translated into a different language. Patton's career actually started in acting and singing in opera and musical theatre when he was 10 years old.
One of his first dub roles was as Naozumi Kamura in Kodocha (1996) and his first mainstream role was in 2003 as Sousuke Sagara in Full Metal Panic! Some of his most notable anime characters are in Pokémon, and Soul Eater.
Haikyuu!!
Likely one of the most popular characters Patton voices is Oikawa Tooru from Haikyuu!! Oikawa is a third-year at Aoba Johsai High and is the setter and captain of the boy's volleyball club. He starts as one of the main antagonists and has become a fan favorite. Oikawa is flirty, sometimes childish, and always a smart-aleck when it comes to dealing with his teammates and fans. While he is very intelligent both on the volleyball court and in the classroom, he is overshadowed by his own idea of becoming better than his enemies.
Haikyuu!! follows Hinata Shoyo's journey on becoming one of Japan's greatest volleyball players alongside his motley crew of teammates and even their rivals. Chris's most impressive moments are when he portrays Oikawa's grudge against Kageyama Tobio in such a manner that the normally cool and taunting Tooru is shaken to his core and more determined than ever to prove a point.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Also known as the "Ultimate Shield," Greed can rearrange the carbon in his body and become tough like a diamond, resistant to most weapons. He lives in luxury and aside from that naturally greedy nature, he cares for his subordinates.
Patton hadn't voiced a lot of villains at the time when he was cast in 2003 as Greed. Fans acknowledge that Greed can be clever one moment and flip to being intense right after. Patton's vocal range is exemplary and it's evident as he brings Greed to life.
Gintama
Gintama aired from 2006-2010 and is one of Patton's main character roles. The show is set in Edo-period Japan after Amanta aliens overpowered the nation's government on Earth and outlawed carrying samurai swords.
Patton's character, Gintoki Sakata, still maintains the heart of a samurai while leading his band of Yorozuya running odd errands. Gintoki is more than an errand boy and becomes known as the Shiroyasha, a kind of demon, because of his powerful swordsmanship, silver hair, and "demon-like" facial expressions.
Soul Eater
Kishin Asura is another rare character style for Patton because he's another villain. Asura is a first-generation, God-like being that was created after many pure human souls were overhunted and came to possess destructive power. Patton had to somehow portray great madness as the physical embodiment of fear. Asura was erratic one moment yet cool and collected the next. This character required balance even in the chaos.
Soul Eater follows a group of students at Death Weapon Meister Academy, also known as Shibusen, where Death himself is their leader. They are trained to collect souls and protect Death City. The show premiered in 2008 and aired for one year.
GATE
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri is based on the light novel series by Takumi Yanai and aired from July 2014 to March 2016. The show followed the Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF) and main character, Youji Itami after a portal shows up allowing supernatural creatures and medieval warriors into Tokyo.
Patton voiced JSDF First Lieutenant and Youji Itami's acquaintance, Akira Yanagida. Traveling alongside Youji into the "Special Region" was bound to create its own problems but Patton also has to maintain Yanagida's mischievous air and be an analytical soldier.
Chivalry Of A Failed Knight
Chivalry of a Failed Knight takes place "in a time and place where one's soul can be morphed into a weapon." The show follows Mage-Knights and students. Patton's character, Nagi Arisuin, arrives in the group from his upbringing in an orphanage after having fought off a gang sent to kill him and the other kids. He starts off as a wholesome, stand-up-for-everyone kind of guy but fans soon learn that it was all a ruse and he was mostly just heartless.
Nagi introduces himself in episode 2 to his roommate on campus and notes, "my friends just call me Alice." Patton gets to help fans acknowledge cool LGBTQ+ representation through Nagi because he refers to himself as "a maiden born in the body of a man."
Fullmetal Panic!
Sousuke Sagara is the main protagonist in the light novel, manga, and anime of Full Metal Panic! He isn't used to functioning in regular society since he was raised in a war-torn region so much so that he reacts rashly, with explosions, when things feel suspicious.
Even in his paranoid mind, Sagara has the best interest at heart for those around him and with the help of friends, he develops common sense and even a love triangle. Just like Patton's other characters, Sagara is powerful and hard-working to the point of pursuing his goals no matter what.
Disastrous Life Of Saiki K.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. follows psychic high school student, Kusuo Saiki, and how he navigates the fragile world with his supernatural powers. Chris Patton's character, Kusuke Saiki, is Kusuo's older brother and is a super-genius inventor.
Kusuke, similar to Oikawa from Haikyu!!, is prideful and competitive. Specifically, he is competitive with his brother Kusuo and even made a time machine to travel back in time to 20 years in the past in an alternate universe to made Kokomi cry over Kusuo. He has an IQ of 218 and Patton is sure to express that anytime Kusuke is involved in a plan.
Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online began as a light novel series by Reki Kawahara and the anime started airing in 2012. The show is set in 2022 and follows the updated virtual reality game "powerful main character, Kazuto Kirigaya, gets trapped and must escape before the death of their avatar causes their death in the real world.
Known as Nautilus in the game, Patton's character Nochizawa Eiji was a childhood friend of one of the 10,000 players trapped in SAO. Eiji also has a condition that doesn't allow him to use the FullDive Non-Conformity machinery for the VR system, making him a hindrance to teams. Patton masterfully captures Eiji's solitary nature, his intelligence, and his honesty even as Eiji fights for his life and that of others.
Akame ga Kill!
Akame ga Kill! follows a merry band of assassins as they attempt to help a poor town and eventually take on an evil empire. Patton's character, Run, was a member of the special police force known as the Jaegers and right-hand-man to Esdeath, a highly ranked Imperial General.
A slightly different character than Patton usually voices, Run was calm and polite, rarely known to have outbursts. But like Patton's other characters, Run was still very determined to reach his goals. Being merciless and polite is not the easiest task, especially to portray through only a voice.
