Disney+'s Sam paving his own way as a new Captain America, fans had a lot to be happy about. But there was one thing that fans unanimously disliked.
John Walker (Wyatt Russell) rubbed people the wrong way since his first debut as America's non-super soldier, Captain America, as his self bravado and anger really made him look like the bad guy. Some fans felt that he wasn't suited to carry the mantle of Cap's shield and what better way to express dislike of the character than with some hilarious memes.
Ranch Always Wins
In the battle of the chicken wings, there always a divide between the ranch dressing and the blue cheese crowd. But the answer is clear as day: ranch always wins. This comical debate also makes for good source material when comparing Steve Rogers' Captain America to John Walker's version.
This meme, Captain America: The Winter Soldier looking tough, resilient and 100 percent the perfect fit. In other words, the equivalent of wings with ranch dressing. On the other side is the more meek, somewhat ill-fitted John Walker in his own Cap suit. Cap and John Walker don't mesh well for some - just like blue cheese and wings.
No One Likes It
What makes this meme so great is that it includes three different scenes from WandaVision. In FATWS, John Walker is introduced in front of the press with a government official proudly saying, " me in welcoming your new Captain America." Both fans and show characters were displeased.
The unanimous disapproval can be summed up with Vision saying, "I'm not amused" from episode 7 of WandaVision. To add to his un-amusement is old Cap saying this line from Endgame, implying that fans don't want to welcome the new guy. The cherry on top was Darcy's line from WandaVision tweaked to show the blasphemy of Cap being recast.
Better Trust Zemo
Zemo has his sly and sneaky ways that become even more evident in FATWS. Fans were split between believing he was actually helping or if he had a secret plan up his sleeve. Somehow, compared to John Walker, Zemo became the most trustworthy and that's saying a lot, considering he killed Black Panther’s father and blew up the UN. He’s also wanted by the Dora Milaje for his crimes.
The meme, taken from the same Mamas Geeky source above, makes fun of the notion that viewers had while watching Walker and Zemo on screen. The way Walker was depicted as someone who slowly lost his morals really did make him the bad guy. This allowed Zemo to be a more grounded character that fans could somewhat trust.
Bucky Doesn't Want To Be Friends
Walker knew very well that taking up the mantle as the new Cap would lead to friction with Bucky and Sam. Fans can agree that the real issue was with Bucky, as he watched a stranger try to take Steve's legacy and shield that was entrusted to Sam. In FATWS, there's a scene that perfectly describes this meme.
Walker and Hoskins offer Bucky and Sam a ride that turns to chaos. Walker tries to reason and get on Bucky's good side, but it doesn't work at all, and Bucky storms off in anger. This meme shows Stark trying to joke with Cap in The Avengers, but Steve brushes Stark's hand away in annoyance.
Bucky Represents The Fans
John Walker isn't liked in the MCU, it's a simple fact. He seems like a great guy and soldier, but he just rubbed fans the wrong way with how he acted and believed he was above everyone because of the shield. This meme puts it all in layman's . The MCU fandom is all Bucky's disgruntled facial expression.
In this meme, his therapist decides to hold her session right there at the precinct with Sam.
The Real Captain America
The meme template with Michael Fassbender as Magneto from X-Men: First Class works incredibly well here to garner a few laughs about Walker as Captain America. The movie scene is when Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) surprises Magneto in his bed and he asks more than once to see the true Raven.
The scene was turned into a noteworthy meme found on Guide 4 Moms, in which Magneto sees Walker as Cap and knows it's not the real Captain America. Magneto asks once again and gets the buff super-soldier, Steve Rogers, as Cap. Real fans know that the real Cap existed way before the serum. As a lanky kid from Brooklyn, Steve Rogers was already America's hero - hence being "Perfection."
Lets Walker Get Beat For His Own Good
One of the reasons why Walker was disliked is because he has a big ego. He believed that by simply having the shield and government , he had jurisdiction wherever he pleased. This meant Walker felt he could walk into Zemo's hideout like it was his own. But he made one major mistake in episode 4 of the show.
Walker was brave enough to try and use his authority on the Dora Milaje. Everyone else in the room is well aware that you never challenge them. Seeing as everyone disliked Walker, they saw no reason to interfere in him getting his butt whooped by the female warriors. It was a fun sight to behold and enjoy, complete with a glass of whiskey.
Squidward Gets It
To be fair, fans did try to give Walker a shot at the beginning of the show. But as he made progress, there was that one line that messed everything up. The meme uses still shots of Squidward from the SpongeBob Squarepants episode, "The Paper." In the episode, Squidward was happy to sit outside his home until Spongebob came to ruin it.
The meme goes well with Walker's introduction where fans said flat out, "Not my Cap." Walker showed some promise when he reasoned with Bucky and Sam that he didn't want to become Steve or replace him. It went downhill when Sam and Bucky refused to work with him to stop Karli. Walker warned them that they better stay out of his way and it was a huge, "Nope!"
Loki Did It Better
Thor: The Dark World, Thor enlists the help of Loki, but they need to go incognito. Loki comically changes outfits and wears the Captain America suit and it was a golden comical moment for MCU fans.
After seeing Walker in his new Captain America suit, fans couldn't help but compare him to Loki's version. The votes were unanimous that fans preferred Loki as Cap over Walker. Despite Loki being in no way worthy of the righteousness that is Captain America, he does fill out the suit better.
Walker Is Not Worthy
MCU fans can recall the scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron where the characters sit around after the Stark party. The topic of how the Mjolnir works is put up for debate. Only the worthy can lift Thor's hammer. Steve Rogers could only tweak it before giving up.
Taking a look at Walker's worthiness, he falls well below subpar. Another meme spotted on Mamas Geeky, this one makes fun of the fact that Walker is so unworthy that the Mjolnir would instead sink further and further into the ground. Walker could never sur the epic moment when Cap lifts the Mjolnir in Endgame to stop Thanos.
