For decades, James Bond has been the grade-A standard when it comes to spies and spy movies. Of course, there have been many spy movies that have come before and after James Bond but none have had the charisma to really put the James Bond franchise on the defensive.
At least, not until Kingsman first appeared on the big screen and brought with it some really nifty gadgets. These gadgets alone make the Kingsman franchise interesting and to a certain extent make James Bond seem like yesterday's news. So who has the better gadgets James Bond or Kingsman?
James Bond: Bagpipe Flamethrower
When one thinks of gadgets, Scotland doesn't exactly come to mind that often. Yet, one forgets that the first James Bond was played by none other than Sean Connery, who was born and raised in the Scottish Highlands.
With that said, probably one of the more intriguing devices that Q ever concocted was the Bagpipe Flamethrower which was first seen in The World is Not Enough in 1999. Sadly, as cool as it was, it was only tested and never used throughout the actual film. This was definitely one good idea that should have been used.
Kingsman: Alpha-Gel
Gamers will be the first to tell you that a headshot is fatal, even though it is one of the hardest shots to successfully pull off, especially on moving targets. In most movies, a headshot is game over for protagonist or villain alike.
Yet, in Kingsman: The Golden Circle all of this certainty was thrown out the window when Alpha-Gel was brought into existence with the power to save agents who took one too many to the temple. This gel injects nanites into the system to repair the damaged brain tissue of victims.
James Bond: False Fingerprints
If there is one certainty that police forces around the world use to identify a culprit, it is by gathering the person's fingerprints, thereby testing to see if they match those of the guilty party who left these prints on the evidence. This is a tried and true method that cops have used for the past half-decade to solve crimes.
Yet, in 1971, Q created false fingerprints so that James Bond could infiltrate a smuggler ring under false pretenses. Surprisingly enough, it worked, allowing Bond to do what he always does. Catch his man.
Kingsman: Kingsman Umbrella
Umbrellas are known to come in handy on a rainy day. For the most part, they are never used as a weapon and in the rare cases that they are, they usually prove quite useless in the situation.
At least, that was the narrative on the umbrella until the Kingsman Umbrella come into fruition. They are not only able to stop bullets and other projectiles in their tracks, while shielding the one holding the umbrella, it can also be used as a grappling hook to pull the owner to safety. Plus they're quite stylish.
James Bond: Remote Control BMW
James Bond has always been a man of sophisticated tastes. That is precisely what makes him so charming to women across the world and to fans who respect his gentlemanly attitudes and behavior.
Though there are certain instances where his high-class tastes have a purpose. One, for instance, is his usage of a remote control BMW, which was first introduced in Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997. This BMW can be summoned and controlled by using nothing more than an Ericsson's phone. A popular phone with all the international spies in the latter part of the 20th century.
Kingsman: Insectohopter
It can't be stated enough how amazing 21st-century technology is getting to be or already is. In this day and age, we have robotic nanites so small they could fit millions into a tiny syringe to be used to circulate through the body and operate remotely.
While this real-world technology is at its beginning stages, such things as the Insectohopter in the Kingsman's universe is already being mass-produced for spy purposes. This tiny gadget is primarily used for scoping out the surrounding areas or to secretly navigate and capture images of enemy bases.
James Bond: Cigarette and Toothpaste Bomb
While Kingsman is new to fans, James Bond has had half a century to master the impossible while capturing millions of fans with its stealthy, ultra-sleek technology.
In the movie License to Kill, James Bond was left with quite a conundrum, to take out his target, he needed an explosion but C4 isn't exactly easy to hide under a tuxedo, so he had to be more creative. Luckily, Q whipped up a solid solution by hiding fuse in a packet of cigarettes and explosives in a tube of toothpaste.
Kingsman: Kingsman Fountain Pen
It is always a good idea to carry around a pen just in case it is needed for business or personal use when away from the house. Though, in the world of the Kingsman, such pens are strictly used for use in world-saving spy business.
These beautiful black and gold pens are used to slip a bit of poison into an enemy's drink when they are least expecting it. While it is harmless to ingest, once the Kingsman flicks a switch on the pen, the poison will begin to take effect and the victim will have seconds to live.
James Bond: Multi-touch Table
While the multi-touch table has been something used in movies for some time, especially in futuristic action films that like to impress with shiny touch screens. In the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, the multi-touch table was taken up a notch and given a more modern look.
This table allowed documents to be placed inside online packages in a mere instance along with the ability to scan papers in seconds. It of course also served as a blueprint of buildings and exits in those buildings for the agent to easily sneak in and out without detection.
Kingsman: George Cleverley Leather Oxford Shoes
Kingsman agents like to look their best at all times. Their look helps them blend in, in parties for the world's richest supervillains. While these agents have a host of weapons hidden underneath their dashing suits, probably the weapon least detected is the blades hidden within their shoes.
If an agent is in trouble, all he has to do is click the back of his shoes twice to reveal blades coated in lethal poison. A quick kick to the body or face will not just slice his enemies but instantly kill them due to the potent poison within.
