Between killing dark wizards and exploring the secrets of the castle, Hogwarts Legacy has created a truly magical experience. And so, it's no wonder that some players may be looking to pick up a similar game after finishing the Harry Potter prequel. Luckily, there are quite a few open-world RPGs that feature some form of magic or spell-casting for diehard witches and wizards. Among these many options, a select few stand out as the best of the bunch.
Anyone wanting another adventure set in the universe of the Harry Potter wizarding world will find there are many spin-off games created to go along with many of the movies or just as an off-shoot of the novels. Players who loved the game for its open world and exploration elements can experience more open-world adventures in other beloved games. If you're missing the magic in your life after finishing Hogwarts Legacy, you'll find many other games that can satisfy the craving.
20 Stardew Valley (2016)
A Cozy World Filled With To-Do Lists
While this might seem like a strange suggestion, Stardew Valley is more like Hogwarts Legacy than it might appear on the surface. No, the stories are nothing alike, as one revolves around a wizard attending a school of magic while the other is focused on embracing a quiet life on the farm, but they do have a few things in common.

The biggest traits that Hogwarts Legacy and Stardew Valley share are their seasonal environments, the age of time, and cozy feel. Aside from the combat sections of Hogwarts Legacy, a large part of gameplay is peaceful exploration, beautiful scenery, and a never-ending succession of tasks, and those are core components of Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley Player Notices Eerie Footprints In The Snow, Leading Others To Share The Interesting Reason Behind Them
A rare sighting has Stardew Valley players spooked as they discover that the woods around their home hold more than just foraging materials.
Furthermore, there is an air of magic and mystery in Stardew Valley that becomes more clear as you progress, so it's not entirely mundane either. If a touch of wizardry is a must, Stardew Valley surprisingly delivers with the inclusion of a character known as the Wizard, who lives in an appropriately whimsical arcane tower outside of town.
19 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)
Enjoy Another New Story In A Familiar World
While Star Wars has nothing to do with the world of Harry Potter, there's no denying that the Star Wars Jedi games have evoked a similar feel for the Star Wars fandom that Hogwarts Legacy evokes for Harry Potter fans. Both offer a brand-new story that takes place somewhere along the timeline of the source material. Neither are spin-offs of pre-established characters, but instead, an original idea that just so happens to take place in a familiar world.

Both offer a sense of recognizability and nostalgia as they allow you to explore pre-established worlds with excitement about what you might discover. Furthermore, Jedi: Fallen Order includes easter eggs referencing its source material that only further adds to the overall experience, just like Hogwarts Legacy. So if you're familiar with Star Wars, then Jedi: Fallen Order and the improved sequel, Jedi: Survivor, are sure to make you feel some of what you felt when picking up Hogwarts Legacy.
18 Fire Emblem: Three Houses (2019)
Embrace The Other Side Of School
If the school aspect of Hogwarts Legacy is what you find to be the most interesting about it, then a great follow-up option to consider is the school-centered world of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. While the gameplay and turn-based combat isn't exactly like that of Hogwarts Legacy, there's no denying that the school setting is extremely familiar, all the way down to the separate houses that closely resemble those of Hogwarts.
That being said, this time, the protagonist takes on the role of teacher, not student, allowing you to explore another side of the school setting. However, there are still plenty of interactions among other teachers, students, and various NPCs that feel familiar enough that they will have you reminiscing about your days at Hogwarts in this JRPG.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Preview - Hogwarts for JRPG Tactics
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a fever dream that combines Harry Potter's Hogwarts setting with JRPG tactics and somehow makes it all work.
As far as magic is concerned, it's certainly present, although it doesn't take on as much of a whimsical nature. Alongside martial characters who wield mundane weapons in combat, Fire Emblem: Three Houses has its share of magic s like monks, mages, and priests, all of whom turn to spellbooks to deal damage or heal their allies.
17 Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (2024)
A Different Side Of The Wizarding World
The newest entry in the Harry Potter world of games, Quidditch Champions is a fantasy sports game that pits players against others in online multiplayer matches, or against NPCs in a solo adventure. Players can fully customize their character and choose from four positions: Chaser, Seeker, Beater, and Keeper. Characters from Hogwarts Legacy can even be unlocked in-game.

Quidditch Champions lets players soar through the skies on their broomsticks, as part of the Hogwarts sports team. Matches are played in locations that Harry Potter fans will recognize, giving fans another glimpse into the world of the books. The game hasn't wowed every player though, with critiques of its visuals and gameplay. Still, for those who enjoyed flying around on their broom in Hogwarts Legacy or those who lamented the lack of Quidditch, this game is well worth playing.
16 Disney Dreamlight Valley (2022)
Magical Adventures In A Different Fandom
For any player who loved the magical world and aspects of Hogwarts Legacy, this cozy game from Disney might hit the spot. Dreamlight Valley is full of magic, stories, and memorable characters from the world of Disney and Pixar. While the game doesn't have as much of a focus on exploration, it does include plenty of world-building and monthly events introducing new characters and storylines.

Dreamlight Valley is a cozy game all about decorating and interacting with beloved characters. It may not have the same appeal for Harry Potter fans if the wizarding world was the draw for them. But Dreamlight Valley does have a similar magical world and relationship-building elements as Hogwarts, so it's worth a try for anyone who's looking for a replacement. Disney's magical sim is also constantly adding new content, so players can stay engaged in the world for a long time.
15 Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (2018)
Hogwarts Legacy But Make It Ancient Greece
Assassins's Creed: Odyssey is one of the most often recommended games on forums for fans of Hogwarts Legacy. Anyone who's played both games can immediately see why: The two games have a very similar playstyle and feel, to the point that the games sometimes feel like reskins of each other. Both games focus on exploring the wide open world, and both use a very similar combat system. The two even use similar skill points systems and astronomy tables.

There are more than a dozen other Assassin's Creed games to play, too. However, Odyssey is one of the most similar titles in the franchise to Hogwarts Legacy due to its inspiration from Greek mythology.
14 Immortals Fenyx Rising (2020)
Immersion Into Green Mythology
The Harry Potter universe was very heavily inspired by Greek mythology, so it's no surprise that it draws similarities to Immortals Fenyx Rising. In Immortals, players take control of the demigod Fenyx and fight their way through enemies and areas from Greek mythology. The player even gets to travel with a phoenix companion whose appearance and special ability can be customized.

- T for Teen: Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence
- Platform(s)
- PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, Switch
Immortals is not as open-ended as Hogwarts Legacy, relying more heavily on clever puzzles and level design. Players who loved the exploration elements of the Harry Potter title will enjoy exploring the world of Fenyx Rising, which features more rewarding puzzles and platforming.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Review: Odyssey Of The Wild
Immortals Fenyx Rising is an action-adventure game that is heavily inspired by Breath of the Wild, but it falls just short of matching its quality.
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series has also ventured into various mythological elements, but they tend to be more present in DLC than in the main games. Immortals Fenyx Rising's focus on the subject stands out, and like the Percy Jackson series, it can serve as a compelling alternative to the flavor of Harry Potter's fantasy.
13 Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)
A Vast Open World To Explore
While it's hard to say this game is similar to Hogwarts Legacy, it's a game that offers a thrilling, explorable world that should appear to HL fans. Horizon Zero Dawn puts players in the perspective of Aloy, a fierce warrior who goes up against mechanical beasts to survive. The combat system in Horizon is much more involved than Legacy's, so it might not be best for complete beginners to gaming. However, if players can get beyond this hurdle, they're rewarded with a beautiful world to explore.

Horizon lets players walk, climb, swim, and even ride the aforementioned mechanical beasts through a beautiful golden landscape. There's plenty to see and discover, and the world feels alive. Its emphasis on exploration and engaging story make it a great game to play after Hogwarts Legacy, even if it doesn't feature the same type of magic.
12 RuneScape (2001)
An Oldie But Goodie
Regardless of whether they opt to play the newer version or Old School RuneScape, players will find that magic is one of the most versatile and satisfying elements of the game, which can be useful both in and outside of combat settings. Players can choose to either focus on the use of runes or a magic weapon and can have fun with many different spells covering elemental magic or even blood or chaos spells.
The freedom of choice in RuneScape should fulfill the fantasies of players looking for a game that leans further into the RPG elements in Hogwarts Legacy, and the social aspect provides another major point of attraction. It's worth noting, though, that the RuneScape games are old and therefore may feel a bit dated for players who are used to the pace of modern games.
11 Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix (2007)
See Where It All Started
While the early Harry Potter games were very limited in their exploration, Order of The Phoenix is the first entry in the series that began to resemble what Hogwarts looked like in the films. Before this, games one through four mostly focused on the necessary rooms required to complete the game, and although the castle could be explored at night, they didn't fully embrace the sandbox potential.

While playing through Order of the Phoenix, however, you're free to explore Hogwarts on a much larger scale. Although it doesn't necessarily have the same size map of Hogwarts as in Hogwarts Legacy, it does still have plenty of hidden secrets, easter eggs, and fun classmates to discover.

The Last Thing Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs Is Harry Potter
Hogwarts Legacy 2 is going to be tied into the Harry Potter HBO series, but this decision is an odd one that could hamper the sequel.
On top of that, this is where the series begins to take a darker turn for Harry, giving the same feeling of good and evil being juxtaposed that the Hogwarts Legacy protagonist experiences. Of every mainline Harry Potter game, this is the closest to feeling like Hogwarts Legacy, just on a smaller scale.
