10 Justice League/The 99

JLA The 99

The 99 is a comic series published by Teshkeel Comics that centers around a group of people, all of whom have powers based on the 99 names of Allah. In 2010, Teshkeel partnered with DC to put out JLA/The 99, a six-issue miniseries. Strange events begin occurring across the globe, a result of the 99’s antagonist Rhugal and Starro the Conqueror, forcing both teams to work together and save the world. The crossover is also notable for introducing a new member to the 99.

9 Planetary/JLA: Terra Occulta

Planetary JLA

Warren Ellis and John Cassaday’s Planetary is a series that focuses on a team that researches strange phenomena for the betterment of the world. But for Planetary/JLA: Terra Occulta, the team was given a dark twist and used their powers and advancements to take the world by force. This put Planetary in the direct line of fire of the Justice League of America, whom Planetary has also killed several of its . It’s a daring crossover that takes the League to some dark places and pits them against some sinister foes.

8 Injustice vs. Masters of the Universe

Injustice Masters of the Universe

The world of Injustice is one of the darkest worlds in DC’s multiverse. The 2018 crossover Injustice vs. Masters of the Universe took the non-canon world and introduced many of its characters to the heroes of Eternia. Set after the alternate ending to Injustice 2, DC’s heroes travel to Eternia seeking help from He-Man and his allies to put an end to Superman’s Regime once and for all. This crossover has everything fans of DC and Masters of the Universe could want: Powerful battles, intense drama, and even a bit of humor that makes it a brilliant experience.

7 JLA vs. Predator

JLA Predator

The lethal Yautja species popularized in the Predator franchise is certainly no stranger to the DC Universe. Superman fought the terrifying hunters once, and Batman’s skills were tested three times. But the entirety of the Justice League was forced into combat against the monsters in JLA vs. Predator. While the story is one of the more criticized crossovers, it has to be given respect for its ingenuity. JLA vs. Predator introduced the ‘Meta-Predators’, genetically altered Predators that were modeled off of the Justice League's to make them even deadlier hunters.

6 Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Justice League and Power Rangers DC Comics Boom

'90s fans got the crossover they always dreamed about with the 2017 crossover Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. After Lord Zedd attacks the Rangers’ base, the team is accidentally transported to the DC Universe. While the Rangers team up with the Justice League, Zedd forges a partnership with the sinister Brainiac, who did the unthinkable and seized control of the Rangers’ Zords. The crossover is filled with action and heart and doubles as a love letter to one of the most fun live-action properties.

5 DC vs. Marvel/Marvel vs. DC

Debates on which Marvel and DC heroes would win in a fight are one of the oldest arguments in fanboy history. But readers actually got a chance to settle the debate for good with DC vs. Marvel/Marvel vs. DC. The 1996 crossover pitted some of the Big Two’s most legendary characters against one another and allowed fans to vote on the outcomes. For the first time, fans could unequivocally say which hero would beat another in a fight. Not only was the event itself a sight to behold, but it gave way to the highly ambitious t Amalgam imprint.

4 Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice!

Black Hammer Justice League DC Comics Dark Horse

Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s Black Hammer is a dark mystery story published by Dark Horse that saw a group of heroes trapped on an eerie farm. Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice! introduced a bizarre twist into the story by having its main characters swap places with the League. Thanks to the Fifth Dimensional nuisance Mister Mxyzptlk, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman found themselves in Black Hammer’s dreary setting while the Liberty Squadron found themselves having to face the might of Starro the Conqueror. It was an interesting crossover full of gloom, action, and little moments of uncomfortable humor.

3 "When Worlds Collide"

Justice League When Worlds Collide

The Milestone imprint of DC Comics introduced a number of amazing heroes such as Icon and Rocket, Hardware, and Static. But the heroes of the Dakotaverse had been contained to their own world (though they did interact with the DCU in the original Worlds Collide crossover). The “When Worlds Collide” crossover featured in Justice League of America, however, brought the Dakotaverse into the DC Universe proper thanks to a cosmic being named Dharma. After Darkseid’s death in Final Crisis caused space-time to fracture, Dharma merged the Dakotaverse into the DCU in order to save it, giving the Milestone heroes a permanent residence.

2 Amalgam Comics

Amalgam Comics Super Soldier

Amalgam Comics was the brief imprint that spun out of DC vs. Marvel/Marvel vs. DC crossover. To stop a fight between the Brothers, two cosmic figures that represented the Big Two, the Living Tribunal and the Spectre fused the two worlds, creating an entirely new universe composed of amalgamated heroes and villains. Instead of Superman and Captain America, there was Super-Soldier. Instead of Ghost Rider or the Flash, there was Speed Demon. 24 one-shot stories were created under Amalgam Comics that revealed quite a complex, if fictional, history for the fused company. Unfortunately, the Brothers were eventually split up, and the Amalgam world hasn’t been seen since.

1 JLA/Avengers/Avengers/JLA

Comic book art featuring the Justice League and Avengers lined up together.

Considered by many to be the best comic book crossover. JLA/Avengers (aka Avengers/JLA) united the two biggest superhero teams of all time for a cosmic adventure that threatened the stability of both worlds. A meeting between DC’s Krona and Marvel’s Grandmaster put both worlds at risk of destruction. While there was, of course, the expected battle between the League and the Avengers, the two teams forged an alliance that helped them save both worlds. Nearly every hero of both worlds gets the chance to shine, but none as much as Superman, who briefly wields Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

The DC Universe has experienced a lot of crossovers in its time, and these ten Justice League stories certainly stand out as some of the team's best adventures.
