With the likes of Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and everyone’s favorite crossover star, Sorcerer Supreme Wong, the MCU is currently home to many powerful and beloved mystical heroes. This is a sector of Marvel Comics storylines that are endlessly fascinating and complicated. As the MCU continues to expand across the Multiverse and traverse the cosmos, hopefully, it will explore more of the supernatural and magical side of things as well.
Fans were gifted with the incredible trailer for Werewolf By Night, the Halloween Special, at D23, which is also introducing Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, and Zombie. Now, they are eager to learn of more new projects for Scarlet Witch and Wong. In anticipation, some fantastic and compelling heroes can and should come into play in these projects, or in some cases, their own. Whether their wizards, witches, monsters, or demons, these supernatural heroes would make great additions to the MCU when their time comes.
Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze)
Of the many supernatural heroes who could helm their Disney+ or film, Ghost Rider is probably the most prolific. Many will Nicolas Cage’s tenure playing Johnny Blaze as recently as 2011 in Agents of SHIELD – the latter of which though technically part of the larger MCU is widely considered not part of the main continuity.
Before Disney+ arose, Luna was set to star in his own Hulu series as part of an “Adventure Into Fear” mini-franchise with Hellstrom. That was quickly abandoned, but many fans would still love to see him come back. As more supernatural and horror-centric stories are explored in the MCU, Ghost Rider will surely come into play, and hopefully, that could lead to a Midnight Sons team-up down the line too.
N'Kantu, The Living Mummy
While the phrase “it looks like nothing you’ve ever seen before” was used to describe nearly every project showcased recently at D23, Werewolf by Night best lives up to those words. The trailer shows that the special pays a special homage to the Universal Classic Monsters films of early Hollywood. One prominent member of the Legion of Monsters who is missing – from what can be surmised from the trailer – is N’Kantu, the Living Mummy.
He is an ancient Egyptian slave who was experimented on by a dark wizard, granting him immortality, but he was locked away for centuries. In the modern days, he ed up with fellow monsters as part of the Legion of Monsters and the Howling Commandos, and importantly, he became a servant for Anubis. He could surely pop up in Werewolf by Night, or at least be referenced in an Easter egg, but if not and Moon Knight gets a second season, then that would be a good option too.
Magik (Illyana Rasputina)
Wanda Maximoff is far from the only prominent magical mutant and X-Men. There’s one named Magik. Illyana Rasputina is a powerful mutant and sorceress whose powers derive from the demonic Limbo realm. She is also Colossus’ younger sister, though she is magically aged up to be closer in age to him than she really should be.
She is best ed now from The New Mutants being played by Anya Taylor-Joy. While that film was derided and ripped apart by critics and normal viewers alike, she was still a good fit for the role overall and could come back to play her in the MCU.
Shaman (Michael Twoyoungmen)
With the likes of Alpha Flight, Canada’s contemporary to the Avengers. Among their ranks is Shaman, who has access to some interesting magical and spiritual powers.
He can make nearly anything appear out of his magical medicine bag and he can call upon spirits to do his bidding. Michael Twoyoungmen aka Shaman is also the father to Talisman and helped raise Snowbird, both of whom would him as of Alpha Flight. His introduction to the MCU would be a good push forward for representation of the Native population like Echo and her family.
Brother Voodoo (Jericho Drumm)
Wong is currently serving as Earth-616’s Sorcerer Supreme and doing such a fun job that many fans are demanding he gets his Disney+ series as soon as possible. In the comics that title has been held by many others beyond Doctor Strange or the Ancient One, including Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo. He is not only a magical practitioner who could rival Doctor Strange, but his addition to the MCU would add an unseen variation of the magic fans are familiar with already.
He already has a link into the MCU through his brother Daniel Drumm, who was the protector of the New York Sanctum in Doctor Strange before getting killed by Kaecilius. Daniel’s death is an important part of Jericho’s origins to become Brother Voodoo and eventually Sorcerer Supreme, so perhaps his story is already unfolding off-screen in the MCU.
Hannibal King
While Ryan Reynolds is rightfully best known as Deadpool, he’s played a comic book character several times for that. One such character is Hannibal King, a vampire and ally to Blade who could likely feature alongside Mahershala Ali in Blade. This alone is just a great setup for a joke if both Deadpool and Hannibal King feature on-screen together, which is an opportunity the MCU shouldn’t up.
King was turned into a vampire by the same person as Blade, Deacon Frost, and he’s also been part of the Midnight Sons, so his inclusion in Blade seems likely. He'd be someone Blade would want on his side when going up against Frost, Dracula, or any of the other villains who could be featured. However, his introduction could be pushed back to a sequel, so Blade can showcase himself as a hero on his own first.
Vampire By Night (Nina Price)
Morbius' universe – and among them is Nina Price aka Vampire by Night. She is Jack Russell, the first Werewolf by Night’s niece, and thanks to an ancient family cursed linked to the Darkhold, she can transform into either a werewolf or a vampire when night falls.
If Gael García Bernal is indeed playing Jack Russel in the Halloween Special rather than Jake Gomez, then Nina would be a logical addition down the line. She could also him as part of the Midnight Sons or a Legion of Monsters team-up.
Doyle Dormammu
One of the most exciting and creative hopes to come out of new sorcerers and mystical beings like Wiccan, Kid Loki, and even Dormammu’s son, Doyle.
Doctor Strange is now seemingly working with Clea – Doyle’s cousin – and traveling to the Dark Dimension, so Doctor Strange 3 could formally introduce him, or at least reference him with an easter egg. Doyle is quite obscure even to avid comic readers, having only been introduced in 2020, but he could quickly become a fan favorite.
Shiklah
Demons found their way into the MCU officially in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law thanks to the untrained magician, Donny Blaze’s missteps. There are several types of demons from Marvel Comics, including the Succubi and their queen Shiklah. She isn’t a true hero like Blade or Doctor Strange, but she has been part of the Legion of Monsters.
While she primarily appears as a beautiful and seductive woman, her true form is that of a giant purple monster. She is introduced as a romantic partner and eventual wife to Deadpool, but their relationship dissipates, and eventually, she does marry Dracula instead. She could therefore come into play as part of Deadpool’s story or that of the vampires.
Daytripper (Amanda Sefton)
Illyana Rasputina is succeeded by Amanda Sefton as the second Magik and ruler of Limbo. While she is connected with the X-Men, she is not a mutant, but rather a highly capable sorceress. She is Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler’s foster sister and years later, on-and-off lover. She even takes up the moniker Daytripper as a cheeky nod to his own.
As such, she probably wouldn’t be incorporated into the MCU until Nightcrawler is, but given his popularity, he’ll hopefully be part of the main X-Men team from the start. She could also be incorporated as a new student at Kamar-Taj instead.
