There’s something enduringly appealing about the action movie. This is the type of cinematic entertainment that leaves the viewer on the edge of their seat, wondering just what exciting event is going to happen next. These types of movies are even more fun and enjoyable when they include a romance plot and when they include some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. These are all of the ingredients that are at work in the new movie The Lost City, which features both Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

For those who enjoy The Lost City's blend of funny, romantic, and action-oriented elements, there are a number of other great movies to watch.

The Mummy (1999)

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, there were few stars The Mummy.

While the title character was a truly terrifying movie monster, the movie never loses sight of the fact that it’s supposed to be fun to watch. There are some genuinely funny moments throughout its run, and it remains one of the best action movies of the 1990s, as well as one of the best mummy movies. With its mix of action and humor, it’s an ideal match for those who enjoy The Lost City.

Jumanji (1995)

Robin Williams was arguably one of the best actors of his generation, and his filmography is full of great movies. Though it’s not quite as outrageously funny as some of his other work, it still has a similar mix of humor and adventure that is a key part of the appeal of The Lost City.

What’s more, it also features some of the same exotic surroundings that, from the trailers, are also going to be a key part of the story with this new movie.

Ocean’s 8 (2018)

One of the most appealing things about a movie like The Lost City is its star-studded cast, including the one and only Sandra Bullock. She has been in many great movies in her time in Hollywood, and she has excelled in a wide range of genres. That includes her outing in Ocean’s 8, another entry in the long-running and very successful franchise of heist movies.

As she always does, she demonstrates her formidable acting abilities, showing why she remains one of the best actresses of her generation.

Spy (2015)

Melissa McCarthy in All Black, Holding and Pointing a Gun in Spy

Not every movie can skillfully blend together the action and comedy genres, and very often one element takes over the other. For those who enjoy the way that The Lost City does this so skillfully, Spy is a similar sort of movie, though in this case, it is a bit of a spoof of the spy genre.

The movie’s true appeal, however, is Melissa McCarthy, who is arguably one of the best comedic actresses working in Hollywood today, and she amply demonstrates that in her performance.

Tropic Thunder (2008)

Like many other movies before it, The Lost City sets a great deal of its action in an exotic locale, taking viewers out of their ordinary lives and into this extraordinary new space.

A similar dynamic is at work in Tropic Thunder, which focuses on a group of actors who get stranded while making a war movie. More than anything else, however, the movie is an ironic look at the practice of making movies itself, and it has many gut-busting moments and performances from its cast.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth (2008)

There’s something a little old-fashioned about the type of adventure movie that The Lost City aspires to be. In that sense, it’s a bit of a throw-back to older periods of movie-making, particularly the 2000s, which produced movies like Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Loosely based on the Jules Verne novel of the same name, it starred Brendan Fraser and was a bit of a family adventure. It handles its material with a light touch, taking viewers on an exciting thrill ride, just as its title suggests.

The Proposal (2009)

Though she has been in many great dramatic roles, Sandra Bullock has shown time and again that she is also one of today’s most formidable comedic talents. These are amply on display in The Proposal, in which she stars with Ryan Reynolds. It’s a very funny romantic comedy.

However, there’s no question that one of the movie’s most appealing elements is Betty White’s appearance as the grandmother, which remains one of her most iconic roles. It’s a movie sure to appeal to fans of The Lost City.

21 Jump Street (2012)

Like Bullock, Channing Tatum has been in many great dramatic roles, but he has also shown in the past several years that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and that he is as adept in comedy as in drama. This can most clearly be seen in the buddy comedy 21 Jump Street, which is about a pair of cops who must go undercover in a high school.

Like The Lost City, it manages to combine both action and comedy into a very pleasing blend.

San Andreas (2015)

There are few actors with quite the level of charm and charisma as San Andreas, which is an action-adventure movie of a very old-fashioned kind. It more than delivers on its central premise.

As with Channing Tatum, the Rock shows that he knows how to create a character that audiences can cheer for and identify with.

The Heat (2013)

Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock in The Heat

For those who enjoy Sandra Bullock’s performance in The Lost City, they’re sure to find much to love about The Heat, which pairs her with Melissa McCarthy.

The two play a duo of ill-matched FBI agents who nevertheless find that they work surprisingly well together. There’s an undeniable chemistry between the two leads, and though some elements of the movie are a bit predictable, the hilarity of their dual performances more than makes up for any of that.
