most anticipated movies of the year. Given that the infamous villain Carnage will be front and center, and played by Woody Harrelson of all people, there’s a lot to be excited about.
Between wild Woody Harrelson movies that will get viewers excited about his role as Carnage, other superhero properties that could be connected, and many other Tom Hardy movies, there’s loads of exciting stuff out there to get fans excited for the Let There Be Carnage's release.
Updated on April 30th, 2021 by Mark Birrell: Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a movie that fans have eagerly anticipated for a long time. For just as long as comic book enthusiasts have wanted a high-end Venom movie, they've yearned for a blockbuster featuring the fellow Marvel symbiote, Carnage, too. The mid-credits sequence during 2018's Venom made some big promises for the sequel to follow up on. But, taking these movies as evidence, those proposed ideas are in safe hands. We've added a few more to this list to demonstrate just how prepared the cast and crew are from outstanding work on their past projects.
Natural Born Killers (1994) - Available on Starz
Woody Harrelson leads this energetic and highly stylized crime movie alongside Juliette Lewis. The two play serial killers who become sensationalized in the media in a story adapted from an original screenplay by Robert Downey Jr.
Bronson (2008) - Available on Vudu, Tubi, and Pluto TV
Tom Hardy is no stranger to larger-than-life criminal roles either and his performance as real-life prison celebrity Charles Arthur Salvador, who took on the name of Charles Bronson, is one of his most unmissable. The unpredictably violent character is one of Hardy's most captivating roles to date and the bizarre creative inclinations of director Nicolas Winding Refn blend perfectly with the odd biographical drama. Double billing this with Natural Born Killers should give a good impression of how evenly matched Hardy and Harrelson will be in their roles in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Blue Valentine (2010) - Available On HBO Max
Blue Valentine is almost like an anti-romantic comedy, as half of the movie sees two 20-somethings fall in love and have the best time of their lives, where the other half sees a complete breakdown in the relationship years later. It features one of the greatest performances from Michelle Williams, who plays Anne in Venom and the sequel. The movie might be tough to watch in parts, but it perfectly captures how great of an actor Williams is, and it’ll leave hope in viewers that she’ll have more to do in the sequel than she did in the first movie.
Zombieland (2009) Available on Sling TV
With Venom 2 introducing Carnage, one of Venom’s biggest villains in the comic books, fans have been in a frenzy since his reveal at the end of the first movie. But what makes it more exciting is the actor who is playing him, Woody Harrelson. Harrelson’s roles have always been that of a tough guy but wacky at heart, and the movie that shows that best is Zombieland, where he plays the shotgun-wielding Tallahassee. And like Venom, Zombieland is hilarious and full of gory action that Venom fans should love.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) - Available On HBO Max
Of all of the many movies Tom Hardy has starred in over the past 10 years, none are more full throttle and action-packed than Mad Max: Fury Road.
Despite all of the on-set problems that occurred during production, the movie turned out spectacular, and as the action didn’t completely deliver in the first Venom, Sony could take some cues from Fury Road.
Now You See Me (2013) - Available On Spectrum TV
Legend (2015) - Available on Netflix
Tom Hardy took on a dual role for this biographical crime drama as he plays both of the Kray twins, Ronald and Reginald, two of London's most notoriously violent gangsters. A two-for-one deal on compelling Hardy performances already makes for an enticing package, but Legend should also be of interest to Venom fans for the psychology of the main characters. Much like Eddie Brock's conversations with Venom, the Kray twins represent an internal struggle played out in the real world, with explosive consequences.
Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) - Available on Netflix
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is directed by Andy Serkis who may still be best known as an actor but has been making a name for himself as a director also. Being the face that pioneered the image of motion capture technology in movies with Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, is a dark and visually impressive take on the classic tale of The Jungle Book.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) - Available on Fubo TV
Andy Serkis continued to impress critics and audiences with his motion-capture performances long after the Lord of the Rings movies were over, and he's debatably found an even more iconic role using the technology with his performance as the ape leader Caesar in the revamped Planet of the Apes movies. Rise of the Planet of the Apes kickstarts the epic sci-fi trilogy with an action-packed story of rebellion and heroism. If that's not enough for Venom fans, the shared San Francisco setting should seal the deal.
The Irishman (2019) - Available On Netflix
A new addition to the cast who didn’t appear in the first Venom movie is Stephen Graham, the seasoned British actor who has starred in many mob movies and featured in blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean. His role in the movie is currently undisclosed, but it’s coming off the heels of his career-defining performance in was finally released for many reasons, but one of the many highlights was seeing Stephen Graham going head to head with Al Pacino, quite literally.
