Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Eternaut.Netflix's adaptation of The Eternaut's cast will return to round out the story, but there's currently no official word on when the new season will be ready to stream.
That lack of clarity of when The Eternaut season 2 will be completed may be disheartening to fans of the post-apocalyptic show. Luckily, however, there are already seven other shows that are perfect to watch while waiting for The Eternaut season 2. All of them provide something that The Eternaut got right - from dangerous post-apocalyptic wastelands to alien invasions to mind-bending mysteries and family-centered stories - and they're all available to stream right now.
7 Silo
Silo's Apocalypse Starts Out Similarly To The Eternaut's
One of the best replacements for The Eternaut is Apple TV+'s post-apocalyptic drama Silo. Starring Rebecca Ferguson, Silo follows a group of communities who have locked themselves away in silos to protect themselves from the outside world, which they're told is filled with deadly conditions, similar to The Eternaut's snowfall. While the shows do diverge significantly from their starting points - Silo is much more of a conspiracy thriller with endless plot twists - the setting alone could be enough to convince The Eternaut fans to start watching.

If You're Still Looking For A Silo Replacement, Netflix Just Released The Perfect Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Show, And It Already Has 93% On RT
It'll be a while before Silo season 3 releases, but, till then, viewers can check out Netflix's new post-apocalyptic sci-fi show with a 93% RT score.
Silo and The Eternaut also aren't as different as they may seem. While they focus on different types of dystopias, both Silo and The Eternaut are built around mysteries that are equally engaging in different ways. Finding out the nature of the silos is just as thrilling as discovering what the aliens in The Eternaut actually wanted. Just as The Eternaut did, Silo is almost guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
6 The Last of Us
Like The Eternaut, The Last of Us Is A Story About Family Where The Apocalypse Is Just A Setting

Though it is an apocalyptic story, The Eternaut is really about Juan Salvo's attempts to reunite with his family and return to some sense of normalcy. Few shows understand how to use the apocalypse as a backdrop for family drama like HBO's The Last of Us does. The Last of Us follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsay), two mismatched survivors of a zombie apocalypse. There's plenty of action to be had, but just like Juan and Clara (Mora Fisz) in The Eternaut, The Last of Us is really about the father-daughter bond between Joel and Ellie.
They are both about family at their core, but The Last of Us also features plenty of action for fans of The Eternaut's alien fight scenes. The Last of Us' "infected" are just as terrifying and fun to watch as The Eternaut's unnamed aliens, which makes it a great option while waiting for season 2. The Last of Us even uses its action in the same way The Eternaut does: to elevate the stakes of its family-centric story.
5 Fallout
Fallout Also Features Main Characters Searching An Apocalyptic Wasteland For Their Family

Much like The Last of Us, Fallout also shares The Eternaut's focus on family dynamics in the apocalypse. Fallout takes place in a world ravaged by nuclear warfare, and it follows Lucy (Ella Purnell) as she searches for her father after he was abducted from their fallout shelter. Immediately, Lucy's story in Fallout bears a huge resemblance to Juan Salvo's in The Eternaut. There is a twist in Fallout, however, that makes it just as mysterious and worth watching.
Perhaps the best reason to watch Fallout, however, is because of how different it is from The Eternaut. Fallout has a much lighter, more humorous tone than The Eternaut, and while it is gory and dystopian, there's plenty of fun to be had. Watching Lucy or the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) getting into the weird and wild Wasteland of Fallout may be a welcome change of pace after The Eternaut's grim ending.
4 The 100
The 100's World Is Just As Deadly As The Eternaut's
Like Fallout, The 100 also begins with the aftermath of a nuclear war, but its later seasons bring it much closer to The Eternaut. The 100 focuses on a group of teenagers who are sent back to Earth after a nuclear war to determine if it's safe to inhabit. They're instantly met with resistance from the survivors on the planet's surface, but as The 100 progresses, it introduces new villains who are capable of things that are very similar to the mind control shown in The Eternaut. Without diving into spoilers, The 100 dives even further into the consequences of facing such an enemy.
Additionally, while The 100 doesn't feature time loops like The Eternaut does, it does get into similarly high-concept science fiction in later seasons. By the end of The 100, the show had introduced an entire new level of being for humanity to "transcend," in much the same way Juan Salvo learns about his powers to traverse time. Anyone looking for another mystifying sci-fi journey like The Eternaut can find it in The 100.

Falling Skies Was The Alien Invasion TV Show Years Before The Eternaut

Perhaps the most similar show to The Eternaut - at least in broad strokes - is Falling Skies. Like The Eternaut, Falling Skies follows an alien invasion of Earth, but one that is even more successful. In Falling Skies, a group of survivors live under the totalitarian fist of their alien invaders and form a resistance movement against them. It's much more action-oriented than The Eternaut, but there's likely no better example of a TV show focusing on a mysterious alien invasion than Falling Skies.
It's much more action-oriented than The Eternaut, but there's likely no better example of a TV show focusing on a mysterious alien invasion than Falling Skies.
There's even some evidence to suggest that Falling Skies was directly inspired by The Eternaut's original comics. From the bug-like appearance of Falling Skies' skitters to the way the aliens destroyed Earth's communication technology, there are a lot of similarities to The Eternaut. On top of that, Falling Skies likely features a more concrete and definitive ending than The Eternaut will, based on how the comics concluded.
2 Snowpiercer
Snowpiercer's Snow Is More Literal Than The Eternaut's, But It's Just As Deadly

The Eternaut is also well-known for its deadly snowfall, and Snowpiercer seemingly drew inspiration from that. Snowpiercer is a serialized reimagining of Bong Joon Ho's 2013 movie, and it follows a train full of survivors of an ecological disaster who are separated by economic class. Snowpiercer's world was destroyed by attempts to reverse the effects of global warming, which sent the Earth into a new Ice Age. While it isn't the same as The Eternaut's apocalyptic snow, Snowpiercer's winter esthetics make it very visually similar.

Netflix’s New Post-Apocalyptic Show With 92% RT Score Becomes Global Hit In Just Days Of Release
A sci-fi comic book adaptation is making its mark on Netflix, making the charts in almost 100 countries, bolstered by positive reviews.
Aside from the shared snowy visuals, there are other similarities between Snowpiercer and The Eternaut. As in The Eternaut, the snow is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for Snowpiercer, and there are plenty of mysteries to solve in the show's four seasons. There's also plenty of interpersonal drama to be had, and Snowpiercer's Andre (Daveed Diggs) bears many striking similarities to Juan Salvo.
1 Dark
Dark Is The Best Show To Replace The Eternaut's Time Loops

One of the most unique and difficult to replace parts of The Eternaut is its focus on time loops. While shows like Quantum Leap and 12 Monkeys do feature time travel, the perfect replacement for The Eternaut's sinister time loops is Netflix's Dark. Just as The Eternaut's time loops force Juan Salvo to continue reliving the apocalypse and losing his family, Dark's time loops force several generations of people to reckon with their secrets. It's just as mysterious, supernatural, and altogether fascinating as The Eternaut.
